Adding Wyze Cams with RTSP

Post by rgnicholas »

Hello forum... this is my first post and let me say that I have already searched the forums here and done some initial Internet searching for answers, but they are few and not specific to my situation. I also know that Amcrest will not guarantee third-party cameras like thsi. However, I hope this thread can help those of us who have purchased Amcrest NVRs as I am pretty sure others will struggle with things like I have. Here is my setup.
  • I have a NV4108-HS and installed a 2TB Seagate Skyhawk Surveillance HD
  • I am adding (so far) 4 Wyze Cam3 cameras which are using RTSP
  • I have assigned the NVR and the cameras static IP addresses
  • I use a Tplink Deco mesh system for a router and the NVR is hardwired into an attached switch which is connected to the ethernet port on the main Deco
  • I have a strong 250mb Internet connection
  • I am displaying 4 cameras on the screen (1920x1080 ea)
  • I have the NVR connected via HDMI to a 4k TV
Ok, I can get the cameras to display on screen and they look good, with just a slight flicker in the lower right region of each camera displayed. However, they are wonky with lag being slight at times and then other times, the lag can be 10 to 20 seconds. I can tell this by the time display on the RTSP feed of each camera. See the attachment for a screenshot of my settings... but know that I have tried (I think) every combination of decoder / server type. Also, the other screenshot shows that all are "green" lighted. Also, I have set motion detection zones on the NVR and it does not seem to work at all. The email setup sends fine via my Gmail acct, but it does not trigger motion events nor email results.

I hope some of you will add to this discussion and I will add details if I find a solution.

Hello and Welcome to the Forum.

So first looking over your settings and things that you mention in your post. I don't think Motion will ever work for your setup. That is from what I took away from things I leaned when I first heard of RTSP and streaming to a Recorder of any brand that I own. I can't say that is the same for all Brands out there today so many things have changed over the years, I guess that might have as well. But from what I remember Motion, CVA (IVS) and thing like that in the cameras little computer will not transmit over RTSP...

Also the next thing I am not sure what Wyze camera your trying to use (Meaning I don't have that one personally). I know that when I did the update on one of my Wyze cameras there was some notice about running Cam Plus and RTSP not to run them both because it will cause Lag. (Maybe related to your lag issue?)

Then in general, I liked my Wyze camera, It looked nice picture looked nice and had some features that I liked at the time. All that aside the camera just never really seemed to work well on the RTSP Feeds.. Now I don't even use the camera anymore and it just sits on my shelf as a backup if I need a camera to cover something while working on one of my Amcrest or many other brands that I use.

Personally there are issues that come up trying to connect normal CCTV cameras on ONVIF or the Private Manufacture type I am not sure many if any have tried to make this type of connection on a NVR in this price range. Personally most want to plug in and have it setup without much messing around with RTSP. for me I had extra channels and extra cameras and loads of time. So i Played around never liked the results so went away as fast as it came into my mind for trying...
Be Safe.
