Adding a wifi camera to a nvr

Post by Tyggy »

Hi, I recently upgraded my NVR to a NVR4108E-HS. I have a IP2M-841W wireless camera I wanted to add to the NVR. I figured out, most likely its an issue with the NVR being directly hooked up to my Wowway router, and the wifi is controlled by their whole home Eero mesh network, so its on different gateways. Is there a way to add this camera to the nvr? I am pretty computer savvy but networking is another ballpark. Would appreciate the help. Thanks

Hello and Welcome to the Forum...

Some of the wording has me worried about what is going on here...

So you have a 841W wireless on a Mesh Network? (Their Eero Mesh Network?) is it your camera or theirs? Isn't your Wide Open Router a Wifi Router? Why wouldn't you just connect (Your Camera) to your Router?

So I am not sure what Router is Main Router? Your router connected WAN or is your Router setup as a Access Point? Or the Mesh Router setup by being connected to your Wide Open West Router?

To be honest the easiest way to make this connection is make sure that the Camera is connected to the same Range as your NVR Same Router or that your camera is connected Via a POE port if it was a POE camera... Note that if you setup your camera say on CH1 and later try and plug a cable into POE Port 1 it will pop up and tell you that it is already in use would you like the camera to take over Ch 1... Please forgive me if the HS don't have the ability to work like my Non HS 4108E... I know there are some systems that oddly won't let you hook up outside network devices, some are setup where they can.. There are so many different systems out there it is hard to remember them all, Some can be an 8ch NVR with only 4POE ports or like my 4108E where it has all 8POE ports...

I would maybe use Amcrest Ip Config Software and or even do a search on your NVR for your camera and see if it comes up...

If your problem is that your NVR didn't make a connection to your Network you may have to setup to do so... Some people may have had the Back side IP the same as their own network IP and it may have Changed your front Side IP to be different by default,, Can you access your NVR over your Network Browser and access the NVR's WebUI?

Say your computer IP is 10.1.1.51 and your NVR IP loaded it might have changed the range because the backside is normally in that range.. However say your computer is 10.1.0.51 and your NVR is 10.1.0.65, Bring up your Browser and type in the address bar the IP for your NVR, If you can access your NVR's WebUI can you do the same to connect to your 841W?

Not there can't see what is going on so I have to ask questions to figure out what is there...

Hi, let me clarify. The router from my ISP has its wifi signal off..instead, the eero is wired to the router and it provides the wifi signal. I had originally the NVR wired into the router, and the camera (its a wifi one) was connected to the Eero wifi mesh (which had its own gateway) so the NVR would not see the wifi cam. Tried messing with the eero network settings, but it was a disaster, so instead, I realized the eero had a extra ethernet port in the back..wired the NVR into that and now the nvr and the wifi cam are on the same gateway, so the nvr now sees the wifi cam. Problem solved.
