Un-useable night vision
Un-useable night vision
Looking for some help here, security dome cameras are washing out at night and it looks like i am seeing the reflection of the IR LEDs but can't seem to figure out how to get it resolved. I have adjusted some and made sure the rubber boot around the lens is making contact with the dome but the problem seems to persist. Attached pictures for reference any advice is appreciated!

Re: Un-useable night vision
Hello tburda ,
Is it looking outside through a glass window? If so there will be reflection and there is not fix for that unfortunately. It could also be reflecting from ceiling or nearby wall etc.

Re: Un-useable night vision
It is not going through a window they are domes mounted outdoors. What would be the best approach to resolve this? The cameras are useless at Night, therefore 90% useless.
Re: Un-useable night vision
Is there any light in the area at all at night? If so, turn off the LEDs and set the mode to "color".
Re: Un-useable night vision
Sometimes there is, but generally no completely dark.
Re: Un-useable night vision
Go clean your glass dome.. It's dust and oil from your fingers during installation.. I used alcohol prep pads on mine after some giant dinosaur feet(lizard) stepped all over my dome and they're as good as new!

My dome camera ip3m glass is clean and my image is just a poor

Re: Un-useable night vision
I've had to switch my dome cams with the bullet cams for this very thing... especially if they are near an overhang on our house. Seems the night vision light bounces off of any part of the house near the camera & reflect back into the camera. I've had much better luck with the bullet cameras (maybe because they hang a little lower?).
Re: Un-useable night vision
Agreed with the issues mounting dome cameras near an overhang/eve, I was experiencing very poor IR performance from this situation as well. I moved mine away from the eve which made a small yet noticeable improvement. After reading around it seems that "vandal resistant" dome cameras just have a poor reputation in general for night vision performance. I tried quite a few adjustments and ultimately ditched the dome for outdoor nighttime use; even considering my dome was a 3Mpx and I replaced it with a 2Mpx non-dome the performance was a "night and day" improvement (pun intended there)kbuicker wrote:I've had to switch my dome cams with the bullet cams for this very thing... especially if they are near an overhang on our house. No more domes for me, if someone sees and wants to destroy it these domes wouldn't stop them.
If anyone is interested in options; while trying to resolve this night vision performance issue with my Amcrest IP3M-956, I came across the Dahua HDW5231R-Z camera. Apparently Dahua is one of, or the, OEM for Amcrest. This HDW5231R-Z is from their Starlight Varifocal line which from what I've read and seen on youtube has significantly improved night vision capabilities. These do cost more than the AMCREST cameras (about $170 at the time of this post, available on ebay via US seller); it looks like a "get what you pay for" scenario. In fairness to Amcrest, I looked yet don't see that they offer any model which compares in performance to this camera. I am considering the Amcrest IP2M-844 which I see as low as $70 refurbished on ebay but I really don't think it will compare to the Dahua Starlight Varifocal for outdoor night performance.

Re: Un-useable night vision
I have ip2m-841 cameras mounted inside looking out thermopane windows. At night all I see are a reflecting of the ir lights of the camera. Can ir lights be turned off?
