Hello,
Not here to complain, bash, or "hate" (not sure what this word means anymore) but as a new user of an Amcrest system with a mid-level knowledge of technology stuff, I've found some of the online documentation (videos, guides/manuals) to be inconsistent which leads to confusion for a new user.
For instance, the support page for my product offers a "QuickDDNS Quick Start Guide (NVR)" but the network settings for my particular NVR appears to not provide QuickDDNS as a selectable option any longer and offers AMCREST DDNS. Fine, but this needs to be communicated to new users and the documentation formally noted and/or updated.
Also, the video for setting up local access for (a) PC demonstrates using Google Chrome, but I've found that this particular browser is incompatible and it was recommended that I use Firefox. Fine, again, but please update the training aids to avoid further confusion.
I was unable to properly connect remotely (WAN) using the AMCREST DDNS option, so as a byproduct of my "learning experience" I realized that I can simply use the DDNS service provided by my router (Asus) while leaving this NVR option disabled and I was able to connect remotely (WAN) and view what the camera is presenting via the NVR.
I learned quite a bit by failing today, and it's the little things that add up when it comes to accurate and useful support offerings. Great products can be unfairly judged if the seller's documentation is overlooked by the seller/manufacturer and assumed to "good enough", and "good enough" for a new user is rarely ever that.
I apologize for any grammar or spelling errors within my post which would be hypocritical of me.
- Just hoping to help the next new user
Trying To Set Up DDNS Leads To These Observations
Re: Trying To Set Up DDNS Leads To These Observations
Hello EyeSeeYou ,
Yes the QuickDDNS option was replaced by Amcrestddns in the latest firmware update. We apologize for the confusion and will be updating the manuals accordingly. Thank you for sharing your experience.

Re: Trying To Set Up DDNS Leads To These Observations
My router does not give me a DDNS service option.
What are the steps to use amcrestddns.com?

Hello trod1952,
If you are using Amcrest Ip camera, login to the web interface from PC and go to setup > Network > DDNS. From the dropdown, select amcrest DDNS and check 'Enable'. Type in a random domain name and click save. The domain name will be followed by.amcrestddns.com.
After this step please reboot the camera and the DDNS should be ready to use. You will have to set up port forwarding in the router before you can use the Amcrest DDNS.

Re: Trying To Set Up DDNS Leads To These Observations
All the pages I try to pull up to set up my ddns always have an IP camera!!!! I have a 650 TVL all I want to do is set it up to remote view. It sends an email fine so I know it is getting through.

Hello retrantham,
For remote viewing on the phone , port forwarding is not necessary as it lets you scan the QR code on the DVR and add it using P2P method. For a computer remotely, you can still use amcrest smart client app and access it with the UID of the device. The below program works for 650TVL DVR.

Please give us a call if you are still having trouble. 1-888-212-7538

Re: Trying To Set Up DDNS Leads To These Observations
Didn't work for me. Here are my ports:
37779: Open, I set this up for http
37778: Open, left this for udp
37777: blocked, left this for tcp
Seems to connect to the Amcrest ddns - but I cannot connect to my cameras externally using a browser. Probably my (very) slow upload speed: I have Suddenlink in a rural area.
