I'm wanting to swap one of my 1080p cameras for a 4k camera.
Is this a simple swap, plug and play process or will I have to setup the new camera in the NVR and phone app?
I have the NV4108E-HS NVR.
swapping 1080P camera for 4k camera
Re: swapping 1080P camera for 4k camera
It is hard to say to be honest... For me there are some things that I would want to do before i connect my Camera to an NVR and that is because in your case it is a POE NVR if you were just making a connection on the outside of the NVR say to a POE switch then it wouldn't matter much...
However if your POE NVR and your talking about connection to say NVR port 4 removing 1080 camera and plugging in new camera to PORT 4 then the NVR would most likely set up to that port you might have to change or enter a password if the right one wasn't setup.. However there is a limit of things you can do for the setup of the camera once connected to your NVR on one of it's POE Ports so them changes should be done from your computer accessing the camera over the Cameras WebUI. Making the changes and then moving the camera to the Port of the NVR... Then the NVR should change the Encoding to what the camera was setup for without an issue but I would still go look under that area of the NVR to make sure if your camera has a Main and 2 subs that your using what you need because maybe not all would be active without your intervention.

Thanks for your comments Revo2Maxx,
How do I access the camera WebUI?
How do I access the camera WebUI?
Re: swapping 1080P camera for 4k camera
To access the WebUI you would need to have a camera on your network side of the NVR and not on the back side of it...
So lets say your network range is 192.168.1.1 for your router and 2-254 for your devices you would need to know the IP of your camera lets say for the sake of ease that you set up your camera Range from 192.168.1.151 to 159 for your NVR you made it 192.168.1.150... So to access your NVRs WebUI you would type in that address 192.168.1.150 and use your user name and password to log in.. However to access the cameras it isn't as easy as that.. If they are connected at the back of the NVR the camera will need to be moved from that port to a POE Switch on your network or you could have a Power supply and just connect to a port on your network.. Then lets say you have a Switch like I do, You would connect your camera to the Switch and say it was your first camera in line you would go to IE and type in 192.168.1.151 and then log in with the User and Pass that you setup for that camera.. To make it easy if your going to connect them to your nVR I would just make them all the same and something easy seeing no outside connection can get past the NVR...

Re: swapping 1080P camera for 4k camera
I swapped the 1080P camera for the 4k camera today. Didn't do anything special, just a quick swap.
4k camera came right up in 3840x2160 resolution. But to be honest, I can't tell a whole lot of difference between 1080p and 4k. I do have a 4k video card and monitor setup so that isn't the issue. I'm a little disappointed.

Re: swapping 1080P camera for 4k camera
Night time footage doesn't seem to be much better than 1080P. Is there some limitation in the Amcrest Surveillance Pro software that limits the resolution?
Re: swapping 1080P camera for 4k camera
No only limit in the Night time is the Camera being a 4k camera.. Not all cameras are Equal and to be honest under most areas that need cameras with Speed there is little better right now then 1080P...
I can't find the video anymore and I know there are large leaps in Tech since this person posted the video but I have been toying with the idea of doing one myself lol.. Seeing I have many Power supplies that would work in my Auto.. But They took 4 cameras 1080p 2k 4mp and 8mp and all had same 4mm lens and he drove around at night to show the difference in quality of the cameras.. All of them being by the same Company by far the 1080p camera had the best overall picture quality going from different conditions and lights over head lights and tunnel and I have to admit I was rather impressed that the 1080 out did all other cameras.. However he drove to a parking lot and Middle of day with Bright light out and the 4k was best in all forms and the 1080 being the worse out of the 4.. Then went to an area where there was train tracks. First test full day light and again 4k was almost the best with 4mp doing better then the rest however he stated that he thought 4kwas better I didn't think so myself.. Then again night time and only lights from his car and the 1080p did better then the others.. you could make out the writing on most of the cars however 3mp there was a few you could see but they were big words 4mp and 4k only seen blur from them.. His statement was all trains in that area have to go 40mph or lower as per the location they were in so he was saying that it wasn't like the night time train was going 70 or a lot faster then the day train for the ones that would try and say it was because of that...
Now I know there are MUCH better 4k cameras then my Dahua box camera.. To be honest it is a 12mp camera and from what I heard when it was made if it didn't fit within the true 4k quality it would get a 12mp label so who really knows.. All I know is my 4k at night is lacking under any of my other cameras...
