Setting up motion detection to record video?

Post by neuman1812 »

I have an Amcrest IPM-751W, and for the life of me I cant get the motion sensor setup correctly.

Right now its pointed at the entrance to my house and it gives me several HUNDRED snapshots over the day. Thousands in some cases with no movement whatsoever. I have the sensitivity set to 1 and Threshold set to 99, yet something is setting it off, but I can't figure it out. Im also not getting any video. Just snapshots. 11 at a time of the same moment. The time stamp does not change. Its 11 images of the same time.

So two questions. How do I set it up to record video. And how do I get it to trigger on movement thats actually there?

My settings:

Is the "enabled" box checked?

It is not. I had unchecked it during testing, because I thought it would turn off all the motion detection and My NAS drive was getting full. I thought with it unchecked I would not get anything. But I still get Images.

Basically, That does not seem to have any effect. With or without it checked, I still get images. No video

It has to be enabled for MD to work. Can we get some more information?

Storage > Record Control (Screen shot?)
Storage > Destination (Screen shot?)
Storage > Schedule (Screen shot?)
Event > Alarm (Screen shot?)

Also - swap the sensitivity/threshold settings. My porch is set to 70/8 respectively. I wanted to get someone walking, but didn't need the neighbor's cat setting it off. Try that out.

Are you hitting the save button after you unchecked it? Also the refresh button will get current setting from the camera.
Also could your dvr have it's own motion detection built into it's software? :?

With shaunmurray on this one - the settings in the screenshot would just about want a bomb to go off to trigger :D

I cant find anything under the "Event" section that says alarm

Code: Select all

I could do that, but since these current settings still get setoff by a slight breeze, wouldn't changing them make my situation worse?

Which is what confuses me. WHY am I getting notification when these settings should just about not work?

Yes Im hitting save. Refresh and a relogin to the camera shows the settings are where they are when I changed them. I have no DVR system.

Sensitivity is how much change has to happen. But setting that higher, someONE has to walk by vs the dust bunny triggering it. At least... That is how I read it. And it seems to be working for me. But, I'm still working out the false positives myself. So, please take my advice with that in mind!. =]

Here is the 'alarm' portion. But, I don't think it matters in this case. You aren't using the "alarm" feature. Isn't it a plugin for a window or door alarm? Vs "motion detection". So. Yea... Disregard the 'alarm'. Here is mine for what it's worth:

Lastly - what are you trying to trigger off of? Someone walking in there? Running? A vehicle outside the window? How long are you wanting the recording to last after the trigger goes off (and there is no longer further movement seen)? Short of enabling it with that first screen, and swapping the S/T settings, you should just then dial it in to what you want. I tend to go increments of 2 when testing. YMMV

As I stated, I'm still playing with the settings and fine-tuning things months later as well!
