Remote access using IP / DDNS not working

Post by evilslumlord »

I am trying to configure Surveillance Pro on a laptop and on one Iphone-6 by assigning a non-internal network IP (this phone is having issues with setting up a p2p connection via scanning the serial number, but works fine if you input an IP). I have four cameras. When I assign each camera a unique DDNS address, (something like xxxx1.amcrestddns.com xxxx2.amcrestddns.com, etc... not the actual addresses), Surveillance Pro keeps accessing the 1st camera, even though I put in a unique IP for each camera added.

Setup:
  • Verizon Wireless with a Actiontec router configured to be a bridge
Asus AC1900 router, which is attached to the Actiontec router. The Asus unit provides the wireless.
Three of the cameras are hardwired into the Actiontec router with one wireless getting its internal IP via the Asus unit.
The Actiontec has IP forwarding activated. It is automatically assigning ports to the wired cameras.
    The Asus has UPnP activated.

Hello evilslumlord,

When you use DDNS address all the addresses are pointing to your public IP address so its important to change the port numbers for each camera (both http and TCP port, with surveillance Pro and phone app you use the TCP port) and forward those ports with their respective IP in the router.

I have been playing with the ports to no avail. The TCP and UDP ports I can change without an issue. The Actiontec doesn't seem to let me change the HTTP port. (see attached screen shot)

The camera in question has internal ip of 192.168.1.8. When I try to setup its HTTP port to 8081, the mapping of the UPnP works. However, when I add the camera to Surveillance Pro, I get a "can't find network error".

These are the port settings for the camera:

TCP: 38777
UDP: 38778
HTTP: 8081 (but still pointing to port 80?)

I specify TCP: 38777 in Surveillance Pro

The other cameras end in .108 and .2 .2 is the one that every camera added links too. I haven't changed any ports on .108 yet.

Hello evilslumlord ,

In order for the http port to change please select custom instead of http in the actiontec router port forwarding page.

Also go to canyouseeme.org and enter your port numbers to verify if they are open. To view remotely enter the DDNs or the public IP you get from canyouseeme.org.

If its convenient for you, do give us a call 1-888-212-7538 and our technicians will take a look at the settings.

I resolved the issues with the wired cameras. Getting the IP's to make sense was a bit of a bear.

The last issue is assigning a working external IP to the cam operating on wireless. This camera is connected to the Asus wireless router with the Actiontec acting as a bridge.

Do you have a technical document how to forward port through two routers? The one article I found isn't detailed enough.

Hi,

In the ASUS router you need to set up port forwarding with the ip address of the camrera and the port numbers. In the second router you should use the same port numbers but the IP to be used would be the WAN IP of the ASUS router. This IP is assigned by the second router to ASUS. It should be in the WAN settings of the ASUS.
