I recently puchased the 1080P Pan/Tilt wifi camera. I'd like to use this for the purpose of capturing rodent activity on premise. I tried logging into Amcrest View portal to setup the camera. I noticed this requires a browser with ActiveX which is very old. Is this still the best way to use one of these cameras? Also, it did not recognize my serial. I've gone into the camera and already enabled p2p and verified I have the right serial. I can login to my camera directly just fine.
Is there a better way to do this? Do I need an NVR/DVR in order to be able to use this thing? Kind of frustrated and wish I had a camera that could integrated with the cloud.

Hello and Welcome to the Forum.
Personally not sure what camera your working with. Most of the updated models of Amcrest cameras will come with old 2018 or older FW installed at this point unless the camera was built after that time. Then it will come with the first known Stable version of the FW for the camera.

Personally I have not used the Amcrest VIew site for long time. I just use the app. However did you start your system using P2P or IP? Did you double check that your camera has P2P enabled? It might be an issue, However if it says there is an issue with the SN then that is something you might want to make a Ticket so they can look into it.

Called them earlier today. They told me not to use their 'amcrest view' website to add the camera but had me access it via the IP instead. They said if I wanted something more sophisticated, I could download software.
Is this the best option I have available or is there something else I can use? I was hoping for a cloud based dashboard that would monitor this camera but if that isn't an option I guess I will make do.

Sorry not sure who or what. However if your remote to the camera use your phone setup p2p and access where ever you are as long as camera has internet access. Desktop you could use ASP (Amcrest Surveillance Pro) also able via p2p. Better then view website.
I don't know why someone would tell you to setup ip mode unless you have a Version of the 841 that won't work? I have v3 and older all working on P2P

Not too impressed with this thing so far. I purchased it for motion detection so that it would notify me if a rodent ran across my floor. I rolled several tan potatoes across the black carpet and the thing has no idea. It did recognize a grocery bag being thrown across the frame.
Is there any way to increase the sensitivity of this? Can I use better software?

There is a place if you log into the Cameras WebUI. Going to the IP address of the camera in your Browser. You can then click on Setup, Event, Video Detection. Then under enable, schedule, Anti Dither will be Detection Area. Click on that and it will bring up a winder where you can set the Grid. To the right of that area is 2 bars that can be moved from right to left and left to right for turning up the values to make it fit your needs.
Personally 9 to 22mm lens camera with a very narrow FOV would be best for trying to pick up Rodents under motion. The 841v3 is a 4mm lens camera and it should be able to pick up something small with right distance to object and or the right settings. Personally I keep mine at a point that I don't get triggers from dogs or Cats in most cases. However that isn't my Target.
You can also get there in the Amcrest View Pro app, If you click on the little monitor looling icon with the cog in it, There you can make some minor adjustments. For better tweaking using the WebUI would be the best area for setting up Grid..
