POE troubleshooting

Post by maelektro »

Dear all,
i am writing from Europe and hope you are all fine.
I just bought an Amcrest 866 Outdoor cam. With its 12vexternal power supply it works fine.

I want to use the network cable as power supply. So i just bought a tp link injector 2412. There must be enough voltage to power the cam.
See specifications
https://www.tp-link.com/de/business-net ... ifications

But nothing. No function at all
Theres also a second cam an Anpviz Cam.IPC D250G -same problem
May you help me and give me some ideas

Thx
Michael

I am going to guess here as I don't know what POE Voltage is in other places but what stands out in my mind when I look at the Page you provided is that POE Injector isn't going to work for your cameras.. You need to look at what your camera says your POE voltage is and find a Injector that will provide that voltage...

Like most of mine say 48vac and then in side the camera is all the Magic to change things over to the right voltage needed for the cameras... I have a couple of others that are POE+ they say require 56vac and again big circuits in there to make change from larger volts down to the right DC the camera needs...

Another thing you want to think about... There are Specs for Distance that you can run POE cameras you will want to make sure you are within that distance as well.. That is most reason why POE don't work.. Bad cable, To long of run, bad jacks, wrong POE type...
Be Safe.

You listed your camera as an Amcrest 866, but you didn't list the full model number. If it is 866e, then POE should work. If there is no e in the model number, it may not support POE at all. The fact that it came with an external power supply makes me think it is not a POE model.

I wrote this yesterday but did not finish. Maybe it will still help.

Amcrest 866 (IP2M-866) is not a POE camera. Anpviz appears to be a POE camera. The injector you have will not work.
Suggestion:
Use a POE switch attached to your router to provide power and data to both cameras using POE cables. Use a POE splitter at the 866 camera to split the data and 12V power. Splitter not needed at Anpviz.

Two POE injectors could be used instead of POE switch if desired.
