POE Camera, POE Switch, and Mesh Wifi

Post by Ginger »

Previously, I had two POE Cams and I ran cables directly to the POE NVR. It was a pain routing the 100' of cable. We moved and I don't feel like running the cable from the front of the house to the back of the house again (cams to nvr) so I considered wireless cams but they max out at 4mp right now (for Amcrest). We have a wifi mesh system and I want to install cams above the garage doors, essentially. I was thinking, could I install 2 POE cams and connect them to a poe switch, connect the switch to one of the mesh units (switch and mesh unit in garage), and then connect the NVR to another mesh unit? This would essentially turn the POE cams into WiFi cams.

It would go: CAM --> POE Switch --> Mesh --> WiFi --> Mesh --> NVR

Would this work?

Thanks,
~ Dan

Your NVR should be connected to your router.
For better performance and reliability, you may be better off using powerline adapters or nanostations.
Examples:

Well yes, the mesh wifi is the router. The NVR connects to the main mesh unit which is wired directly to the modem.

So, would this configuration work?
