I just finished installing a 16 POE Camera system into a local bar here. Use a New Dell PowerEdge R220 Server with the following setup/specs:
Camera's:
6: Amcrest ProHD Outdoor 3 Megapixel POE Bullet IP Security Camera - IP67 Weatherproof, 3MP (2048 TVL), IP3M-954E (Black)
1: Amcrest IP2M-841 ProHD 1080P (1920TVL) WiFi IP Security Camera, Black
6: Amcrest ProHD Outdoor 3 Megapixel POE Vandal Dome IP Security Camera - IP67 Weatherproof, IK10 Vandal-Proof, 3MP (2048 TVL), IP3M-956E (White)
1: ASUS RT-AC66U Dual-Band Wireless-AC1750 Gigabit Router
Dell PowerEdge R220 Server specs:
Windows 7 Pro
Intel Celeron G1820 2.7GHz, 2M Cache, No Turbo, 2C, 54W
4GB UDIMM, 1600 MT/s, Low Volt, Single Rank, x8 Data Width
500GB 7.2k RPM SATA 6Gbps 512e Entry 3.5in Cabled Hard Drive
WD Purple 2TB Surveillance Hard Disk Drive - 5400 RPM Class SATA 6 Gb/s 64MB Cache 3.5 Inch - WD20PURX
Network Equipment:
TRENDnet 16-Port 10/100 Mbps GREENnet PoE+ Switch Rack Mountable, TPE-T160H
CyberPower OR500LCDRM1U Smart App LCD UPS 500VA 300W SNMP/HTTP Rackmount
With this server i was informed by Dell that it would run fine for my setup. However i discovered it does not. The CPU and Ram just can't handle a 16 camera system. I have since ordered a replacement server with the following:
Same Server Model, Different CPU/Ram
Intel Xeon E3-1220 v3 3.1GHz, 8M Cache, Turbo, 4C/4T, 80W
8GB UDIMM, Low Volt, Dual Rank, x8 Data Width
500GB 7.2k RPM SATA 6Gbps 512e Entry 3.5in Cabled Hard Drive
WD Purple 2TB Surveillance Hard Disk Drive - 5400 RPM Class SATA 6 Gb/s 64MB Cache 3.5 Inch - WD20PURX
What my question for the server is, will this be enough to sufficiently do the job without any issues?
Drive Allocation: If you select more than one drive to allocate video recording, does it split the data between the drives or just make separate mirrors?
Inside the Amcrest Pro setup under General, i have the snapshot & record path's to go directly to a directory i created on my WD purple drive and the config path remained default under the c drive. My question 2 fold:
1
A:why is it when i look in those folders, i see no data being saved?
B: on each allocated drive i have a folder called 'media'. Inside those folders there is a file called IDEFile. It's extremely large and i'm assuming this is the recorded data. Is this correct?
2
When i need to search for a snapshot there is no snapshots to see. If i need to get this information to the authorities in a hurry, where do i find this information for my customer to just throw these images on a flash drive so they can get it to the authorities quickly without contacting me. Seems that this entire system is designed to only allow stuff to be done manually during the playback feature. If i have set something up incorrectly then it would be greatly appreciated on how to get this setup so it automatically saves or exports and converts the daily/weekly video's and snapshots into the properly assigned folders for easy export to a CD or flash drive. Any solutions or setup help would be greatly appreciated.
PC-NVR Questions
Re: PC-NVR Questions
Hello Lanops,
The server with the 8GB UDIMM should be able to do the Job in your set up. I believe you are using the Amcrest Surveillance Pro software for recording? If that is the case I believe it can record to only one location at a time. The path that you set for images and videos are for manual recording. That is, when you manually select the record button in the preview screen. The scheduled and motion detected videos are stored in the PC NVR location which you allocate under PC NVR. The location is hidden so you may not be able to find the files there but can play back the files from the software interface. It is also possible to export multiple files from the software to another location.
