NVR 4108 with 3 Amcrest IP2M-841B cameras - No audio

Post by brfrankl »

Reposting here hoping I can get some actual help since tech support is obviously not reading everything I already put in the ticket (which already answers every question they have asked).

Here is the original ticket:

I have the NVR 4108 with 3 Amcrest IP2M-841B cameras connected wirelessly. I see that the NVR is recording Video fine (I have it set to 24hr record) but I cannot seem to get the audio to record OR maybe it is recording and I just can't hear it playback.. I have tried the web interface and the Surveillance pro software and neither will play the audio. I have tried muting/un-muting the computer and the software. I am have sure the volume is 100% up.. If I listen the the playback from the SD card, I can hear the audio, just not from the NVR. On the NVR settings I have it set for main and extra video/audio.

If you look at the capture.png, you will see the audio is already enabled for both main and extra streams.

------
Responses from tech support so far:

#1: May we ask what model cameras you are currently running on the NVR?

HMM, sentence #1 seems to have that information already, but replied with it again.

#2: You will have to get into the camera settings & you will have to enable "audio" on the NVR.

Um, lets see, take a look at teh capture and see if audio is already enabled? Hmm, shows enabled right there.

So, why ask for information that is already in the =ORIGINAL= request? SMH      :!: :!: :!: :!: :?: :?: :?: :?:

SO, anyone have an idea how to fix this?

I have the same question and would be very interested in an answer also. I don't know if you have to use a monitor connected via HDMI or a speaker connected to the MIC OUT port. I've tried the MIC port but with no success yet. I don't have a convenient way to test the HDMI method.

I am having the same exact issue. I spoke with two separate sales people and one tech support rep before purchasing this NVR confirming not only that it records both video and audio but does so on all channels. I received he unit two days ago and have since set it up. I have it hooked up to my television and the video playback looks really good without any latency issues. However, NO AUDIO??? Tech support is indicating that this NVR does not record audio despite their being options within the software to activate it. When you attempt to activate it, you get a notification that it cannot be configured. Tech support tells me it will record both audio and video to the local storage card but not the NVR? Makes no sense. This is a significant design flaw. I will likely return and just buy a dedicated PC and run Blue Iris. Too bad. Maybe someone from tech support can contact me to help me resolve this issue. I believe this feature is intended to function but just isn't working so they are stating that it is no longer available. I will be updated my review to 1 star!

I have the NVR 4011 and I get no sound either in liveview or preview. But if I export to a video file .DAV and play it with Armcrest Smart Play, then I get sound though not that great. Maybe it is because the mic is facing the window.

Hello acirolia,

It looks like there is an issue with audio when live preview with the NVR. But it should record audio fine and you should hear audio when it plays back. In the NVR settings under camera > Audio-video, make sure audio is enabled. Download a file with sound on your PC and play it back to see if you get audio.

Was there ever any resolution to this? I set up my NVR last night. Records video just fine. I can hear audio if I view a camera live and click the "Talk" button. But I can not hear any audio during any of the recordings.

** EDIT ** Figured it out. It was operator error :) Camera's were configured in the web browser set up for each camera to use a different encoding format than what the NVR supported. After I updated each camera, sound was there.

bryanlyle great news in that you solved the no audio issue from the nvr to the tv etc. This problem has been driving me crazy and I still cannot get the audio.

Can you please expand what you mean in your solution.

What was in the camera settings before and what were the changes in the camera settings to make the audio work. Work appreciate it if you can enlightened me as amcrest support has not helped in any solution except that they informed me that they know it is a problem.

I logged into the web browser for each camera individually. Once signed in, I went into Setup->Camera->Audio and set it to G711.A which is supported by the NVR. It was set to AAC by default. Once I made that change to each camera, the NVR started recording sound on each camera.

Really hope this fixes your problem as well!

bryanlyle thank you!

When I changed the audio setting the nvr recorded and played back BOTH video and audio now.

With the audio setting change the SD card on the camera now no longer records audio resulting in camera video playback only and no audio playback (using the camera browser). If I want SD recordings and playback with audio via the camera I must change the audio back to ACC but if I want audio on the NVR I must change the audio to G711.A. Wish the firmware would allow to keep audio on both the camera and the NVR without loosing audio on one of the devices. Hope Amcrest can address this.

Glad that setting fixed the NVR problem. It's been an adventure getting this set up and configured correctly.

My guess is there is nothing that can be done to get both G711 and AAC at the same time on the same stream. Can you you use AAC for the secondary stream and use that to record to the SD card?

The NVR records in a format that requires G711 for audio and the SD card records in a format that requires AAC.
