New Network - now can't setup wi-fi

Post by tjs00 »

I had all four of my cameras working just fine for years. I switch internet providers today. I can no longer set up my cameras. I reset them them and am using the App Setup method.

However, it is trying to do an "Audio Sync" as it asks me to hold my phone near the camera and it will emit a sound to sync. (Search for "Amcrest Audio Sync" to see this set up method in the manual PDF). (See screen shot about holding phone next to camera and a sound will be emitted).

I of course don't see that third option to Audio Sync and would not click it. No sound is emitted anyway. I have tried three of the camera and none will configure with WiFi (the fourth is hard wired).

Unfortunately, these cameras are permanently installed in the ceilings so getting them out and connecting them to ethernet for setup is not an option. I am not keen on buying a 100' ethernet cable just to set these up one time.

Why does the wi-fi setup option not work?

Also, if it matters, the new network is SON (self-organizing network - same SSID for both 2.4 and 5ghz). I assume this does not matter as the cameras should connect to 2.4ghz automatically.

try replicating the same ssid and shared key from your old network in your new network setup. i do that all the time when i have to switch out the main router. all of my amcrest wireless ip cameras connect without issue regardless of which router i use and i have 4 routers i routinely swap out to rebuild custom firmware and test new configuration before adopting it for use.

Unfortunately I followed the Amcrest video for setting up on a new network (essentially a new location) and the first step is to reset to factory :(.

Hello and welcome to the Forum... So while you might have things setup and I am not sure if you reset them all..I have an idea

About being in Ceiling and installed sadly there is times that you need to Preform Factory Reset and or do things that require access to the camera.. I know the feeling though I have some cameras that are up 45 feet and only access to them makes me really afraid of heights.. Mainly because it is on a Parapet 12ft over my roof only way to access it is a a frame ladder at the peak of my roof, Remove 3 top screws and push in a tab turn it and last time I was up there I am glad it is chained to the mount because it would have falling to the ground...

So my idea while I can't 100% say that it will work but I am going to guess that it would... One connect your old Router up to the cameras access them like you normally would,, Then go to Wifi under networking, then click on search, then clik on on your new router for access then put in the Password... save and done it will log you out and connect to new router...

Don't have your own router? Well if you are in the US I can send you one of my Backup Routers! You would set it up or have me setup the Router like your old one with SSID and password to the router it will connect just like it thinks it is your old one... THen you would log in that router and you can make your changes needed for getting your cameras connected to the new Router.. IF your outside of the USA and I am not Telling anyone to do this but could always get a Router maybe buy a used one from local thrift store or if you had to and this is the part I am not telling anyone is a good thing to do but in a bind.. Get a new one from Store,,, Setup to SSID and password that the cameras know, Log on router make changes to new router and your done.. Once done return router saying it don't work for your needs and your not out anything.. Need a backup one for Rescue reasons. Sadly you need a back up Repair Cable that may never get used again but you have it on hand when it ever is needed to make a Connection to the one you Reset sadly not many options to setup the cameras.. You could use the App maybe to set them up but you would need to know the Cameras Serial Number, Then you could use the app to setup WIFI camera and setup by inputting the SN manually or if you can see backside where Barcode is scan it to add... Once you setup over WIFI you can access it on your new wifi... The sound part has never worked for me and That isn't how I ever have done it only takes time out of my day that I value...

So Reset Camera, Using App *Amcrest View Pro* Click on the + to add camera, Scan or manual put in SN, then give name, then use admin admin and then it will ask you for your routers Password give it and should be Golden...

Sorry didn't see any replies.. Then I remembered that I finished my game and didn't Refresh the page...

But yeah some Routers from ISP's will let you setup SSID and password to what ever you like as amcrest168 said if you can setup your new router to be the same as your old on in SSID and Password and problem resolved besides the one your Factory Reset...

Old router was taken away when they did the upgrade. I fear my best solution is to buy a 100' ethernet cable and temporarily run it to each camera to do a an ethernet wifi set up.... $25 down the drain.

Yeah sadly I was there for a moment myself once.. So I no longer use my ISP router for anything other then Guest connections and to connect to my Own Routers over Cat6.. All other computer or phone, camera or Smart TV is connected from my own Router on so if they have to change out the Service Router/Modem I am not down everything on my Router up is all Static IP on all devices even my Cell Phones, Smart Tv's, Cameras, Computers, everything... Service goes down all my network still up...

IF you were local I would lend you 150 cable that I have just chilling here for if and when it is ever needed..

By the Way as much as I hate CCA you can get 100 even longer cable with ends of CCA for maybe less then 15 shipped in the US... While I hate CCA for you setting up camera and not using POE I am all for CHEAP throw away cable I am sure you could find CCA cable 100 for 9 to 12 shipped..

having the old router will not help after you have performed the hard reset on your cameras because now the cameras have lost their wireless network configuration and they are no longer associated with any wireless network. the only way to communicate with the cameras now is through their lan ports. some wireless cameras support wps but i don't think it applies to your situation--someone will still need to climb up to the ceiling to reach the cameras to push the wps button in order to initiate the wps connection with a router that support wps. things would have been much easier if factory resets were never performed on the cameras.

That was why I mention that a cable they may never use will be needed for the camera that was Reset... I did guess and maybe wrong but that was why I said THE ONE they reset because my guess was they only tried to reset one and not them all... However it maybe, sadly they have to buy a cable... Or if I knew them better I would send them mine... heaven knows I have enough cable seeing after I ran out the last time I started buying 1000 feet every month to make sure I have some on hand when I need it lol...

Not sure why these cameras just don't support WPS! I can reach the cameras and all ports are available, I just can't take them down to get them close to the router (hence the long path cable I mentioned).
