New Firmware Posted

Postby tickerguy » Mon Jul 29, 2019 8:32 pm

Dear Valued Customer,

We have released a new important security and feature enhancement firmware update for the following Amcrest Wi-Fi camera models:

Email received today...

I own a couple of these. So I updated them.

What yo guys smoking over there?

First, https is now completely broken. You can generate a certificate but the "enable" box never shows up, and the port is never opened. In other words, no more https. At all.

Second, the option to REMOVE the lower right hand corner "Amcrest" branding has been deleted. C'mon dudes.

I flashed back to the older stuff immediately. My cameras are firewalled and can't get out from my DMZ anyway, nor can anyone get into them from the outside; only my own code can talk to them.

I'd like to believe in the "improvements" but removing https is not an improvement, nor is forcing branding on the video screens.

I got excited when I saw the announcement about this firmware release. It will be a real treat to eliminate the need for the plug-in to view video streams in modern web browsers. However, this release has been a disaster for me, so far. I'm still testing but I have decided to go back to the prior release for now. The first few show-stoppers include:

1) I took the trouble to export my settings before the upgrade and subsequent hard reset. Sadly, the new firmware can't seem to read my old DeviceConfig.backup files so I have to tediously hand-enter all my settings, again. What a nuisance, especially for those of us with multiple cameras. I get an error message, but no explanation when I try to import the old file.

2) It broke my ability to FTP images and videos to a central FTP server. This used to work and I depend on it. Now it doesn't work. Curiously, the FTP test button works and it sends a test file okay. But it claims the test fails and disables FTP.

3) I can no longer remove the Amcrest advertising logo on snapshots and videos. Who made that poor decision? It's my camera, my content, and my output files. Amcrest, I will not tolerate having your logo splashed all over the screen and embedded in my recordings.

4) Bonjour seems to have been removed. That's not real critical for me, but at a small site without a DNS server it help locate devices on the LAN, especially secure sites that have mandated that PnP, P2P, and ONVIF have to be disabled.

I'm hoping in a few days I see a new release that fixes at least the first 3 items in my list.

Additional note added 30-Jul-2019:
The version I tested was downloaded yesterday after I got the email from Amcrest about the new release. The Amcrest announcement in this forum showed up several hours later. The version I tried is V2.420.AC00.18.R, dated 20190729

btw... all my Amcrest cameras are model IP2M-841

I am sorry to hear about the troubles you both have been running into, We do still have many things to work on and this being the first official release the Firmware is working well within its parameters. the 841 and like cameras are a big part of Amcrest and without this update Mac users and others were extremely limited on accessing any form of the WebUI. The primary purpose of the Javascript firmware was to bring back this Compatability and or more. With this being the first Offical release it will still have some wrinkles that we are needing to iron out.

I sent both lists to our R&D and Engineering team to work with. With the mass email sent out right now, we are collecting as much information as possible and make sure it's on the list of our R&D and Engineer team to work on.

The old firmware was plugin-based, this plugin was also able to handle many things such as turning on or off the Amcrest logo, As for FTP This is a high priority issue and we will be working on this promptly.

On behalf of the plugin we just produced a new guide to assist in the removal of the Logo from the view. If you still are running into issues after trying this method please let me know and I will pass the information forward.

Link to guide> ... t-View-Pro

With the new javascript platform, there will likely be some functionality loss however we are going to do our best to minimize this.
If you have any more questions or concerns about this product or other Amcrest products, please reach out to us at

James S. and Michael M., thanks for the quick tip on how to remove to Amcrest logo. I was able to use the Android version of Amcrest View Pro to toggle the logo off.

I'm surprised that feature was removed from the web interface. Please put it back on your ToDo list!

Thanks for the Switch to JavaScript from the plugins which are becoming unsupported by modern browsers. I have a couple of IP2M-858W and waiting for the firmware release. I was concerned when KeeterJ noted the update could not read his backup config file. I hope this will be fixed before the firmware update is released for my cameras. Thanks

Is there a Tip so that we can use https again.
Without https we dont need a camera that is connectet over the internet.

I agree. I am hoping there will be an acknowledgement from Amcrest Support that the HTTPS problem is real, ideally with some kind of workaround, or, if it is actually a user procedural problem on our end, some help for us to enable HTTPS again.

I believe this is the most serious issue with the FW update.
