my cameras are slow and have unusual ip's

Post by bill_s »

I've got half a dozen cameras that I've owned for about 4 years. They have always been slow updating most (but not all) of the time and I notice that they all have computer assigned IP's that start with 10.0.0.1. I see that everything else on my system have ip's starting with 192.0.0.1. I'm not sure but can this have something that causes the slow updating of the cameras. Sometimes that update every second but most of the time the updating occurs every randomly 8 to 20 seconds. I've tried a number of things but can't seem to fix this problem. Sometimes the cameras just disappear for an hour or so and then return. My service is FIOS and quite fast so I'm pretty sure it's not a bandwidth problem. Can anyone help with this? It's driving me nuts!

Hello Bill,, Sorry for your issues... While i can't say for a fact what the issue is because don't have enough info on the subject...

Are you running your system on NVR, DVR, Blue Iris, ASP or some other 3rd party software?

Your cameras Wifi or Wired Ip?
You have Any Switches? or Hubs? Or do they go direct to your Router?

Sadly there are some other things that might make this bad as well. Some routers are set to limit traffic to the worse speed item of the network... So say you have a switch with the feature and your connecting your system to the switch, when that one item lags it drags them all down...

Another issue you can have the Best Router in the world with your Fiber connection but if there is bad cable or bad connection this can cause issues...

IF your on wireless cameras it is best to have them Wired...

Network cable from your router to you switch? it could be bad causing the lag could be bad wiring from camera to switch or router or what not... POE could be a power issue could be a load of things and sadly it is hard knowing what you have done how long this is going on and what you have tried to do to fix things?

First, thanks for your reply. I do appreciate it. The camera's are all wireless. My house is large and it would be all but impossible to wire them up. I'm using an early ORBI wireless mesh system that seems to work quite well with other devices (really only have a few IPADS on the system) and I do not use my phone on this wireless network because of problems that once existed. The problem has existed as long as I've had the camera's in one form or another. Occasionally for periods as long as a month, the camera's work well and update properly but this randomly stops and then the camera's perform badly. I'm using the Amcrest software which I believe is current. I have noticed that when I stop and restart the software, the camera's sometimes come back to normal operation for a while but not always. sometimes when I unplug and replug the power source on a camera it also sometimes begin to operate normally. I also noticed recently that when I pull the camera's up on my cellphone they are sometimes slow incoming up but when they do they seem to update properly. The phone is not running on the house wireless but on a 4G network. I don't believe I have a limiting speed switch. I have also noticed that when I have only one camera operating, the erratic updating still continues. I appreciate your help and I hope this might give you a clue as to what's happening. Why do all the assigned IP's begin with 10. Never saw that before.

DHCP conflict? The IP Config tool should be able to reveal that, but you might try shutting off all but one device and seeing if it changes anything, then power up other devices one at a time and note if there is any change. Good luck.

Issue with your IP being in a different range is caused by the person that setup the cameras setting them to Static and setting the Ip to what they wanted. This way you can always turn your camera on and have it come up to the same IP address as it was when you logged into it last time...

If your Router is setup as a DHCP server it will offer an IP to all items on your network that is set to Obtain an IP Automatic.. However if you have an item that is set to static and it is in a different range as long as the ip isn't in conflict with the routers DHCP it won't pay it second mind...

If you want to change them you can as stated before use Ip Config Tool from amcrest or others that offer the tool and make changes to the Range to suite your needs... Or you can set your Computer to that Range by adding another IP under your Advanced options in your Computers Network setup page... There you can then have more then 1 IP and be able to access any Ip in any range that you have setup in your computer...

So even though you are in 192. xxx.xxx.xxx you can set your computers second IP to the 10.0.0.XXX range and as long as your cameras are not behind a POE firewall and have direct access to the range of IP your set in you would bring up IE or Chrome and type in 10.0.0.1 or 2 or 3 what ever the Ip of the camera is and once logged in go to setup and network tcp/Ip and you can make the change to keep it static is best practice and change it to your 192.168.1.XXX range and save then you will be set... Next time you would log in to the camera on the new IP...
Be Safe.
