Motion Detection / Camera Masking?
Re: Motion Detection / Camera Masking?
Well from what you describe yours does not work much better than mine, I guess my question is than to Amcrest is If we can't use the Camera to provide real time security for our homes or even to make sure a location is secure what good is it, Your wife is home alone and when you get home to find 100 alerts, after some one has broken in. and may be done who knows what. It would be nice if she got an alert that was dependable, May Be prepare for unwanted visitors. Or if its at a summer home in the winter with no one home and some one cleans out the place when the motion is turned off, because it doesn't work. To me it puts a very different prospective on it.
Re: Motion Detection / Camera Masking?
Well then that is just it.. Sadly Camera placement is the best way to make good Motion Detection setup.. So while I did show you some of the Motion alerts that do happen what I didn't show you is the ones that don't happen because it is on an area well away from random issues that would cause motion and when I ask for an alert at that area I know it is real.. Placement is key...
So this camera is showing a camera that is placed in an area that is monitored with another camera that gets false alerts do to sun and car lights however this camera is placed in an area that every one of the Motion alerts in this bar is a Real Event Now this camera is also full time recording because it has a MIC I didn't post the Full Record Green lines so you could better see the Motion alerts.. Out of my Camera setup I have things that I don't show because of Security and one thing that I have started to do is show more cameras then I ever intended because of change in my security.. As I will be changing them in spring time..
So then it comes down to this.. What is important to cover your home.. Front door, Back door and main floor Entry points. What are PTZ's for they are designed to take the place of 3 or 4 cameras in an area that isn't 100% critical. It is designed to get to an area, zoom in to watch something that is happening that another static camera can't see with the lens it has and it's FOV.. Some PTZ's have alarm in and out so you can connect PIR sensors to then tell the camera to move on sensor to a Preset or some other type of setting that was setup.. Again this is to help keep an eye on a large area... All while the static camera covers the area as well just a wide FOV so it don't really see as well..
For me, Camera front door pointed at an area that can't see the Road or motion setup so it don't get the Road if your not wanting Traffic info, Back door covers the door and the FOV of what the camera can see.(Motion only on Door). Drive way camera I have 4 only 1 of them is placed so it don't false and as of a couple of months ago that changed to 2 cameras that don't false because I added Intrusion only and removed motion from that camera so only when the PIR reads there is something there and then it passes into the box that I have setup in the system if it enters that area the recording starts and the screen is normally on Channel 1 on that enter of the box it will pop up the monitor channel 2...
For my Birthday if my wife lets me as one day she is ok and next day no you have to many recorders lol however with any luck next month I want to buy the AI NVR.. Then I will have something new to complain about lol.. JK.. I mean I did some on my 1046ew AI POE camera after setting it up.. Just hope with the NVR it will complete the Camera and make me happy lol.. That is my Intent.. Still wish others would pipe in what they like or don't like about their AI NVR so I have a since of what I am getting into when I buy it and maybe even make some Videos of its use and setup of the system.. Will have to see...

Re: Motion Detection / Camera Masking?
Sounds like a good way to go given the problems with the NV motion. Something I forgot to add that complicates many of my issues is several of the locations do not have access to unlimited data cable Internet, and I must rely on cell phone Wi-Fi. That is not unlimited and actually has a fairly small amount of data available. So even if I wanted to I wouldn’t be able to run continuous feeds. One of the locations is complicated even further and his powers solely by solar power. Which adds some power restrictions as well as no cable around limited Wi-Fi available. That’s why I was really hoping that the cameras would work a little better than they do, and adding security motion sensing to the location. But they don’t so we do the best we can.
Re: Motion Detection / Camera Masking?
Well that would be little hard for most of any of the Amcrest devices with 2019 or 2020 FW on them seeing they require a internet access for playback even within your local network connection.. (Meaning even if your setup with IP and not P2P local at Site) that camera that is connected to network won't play back without a Internet connection..
Doorbell with issues is going to be plagued with issues without a good internet connection as it is always talking with the cloud..

Re: Motion Detection / Camera Masking?
I guess I did not explain very well, The door bell and two of the Large outdoor 858W cameras as well as several others smaller ones are on a very fast cable WiFi system, The two large ones are fed by 5K so that should be very fast. One other location is also tied directly to a 5K cable modem, They are just as bad if not worse for alerts.
I also have one of the large 858W and a few of the small ones on another cable hookup, about half are on direct cable hookups . The other half of the 30 are tied to the Verizon wifi internet Modems and surprising there is not much difference. All of them If Motion is turned on Send false alerts all day and really bad at night Most are just turned off. I tried leaving my drive way one on last night, Pointed right at my car. Nothing else in view, I got 75 alerts last night about half did not have any recording. Every time a car went down the road over 200 feet away it would reflect off the house and send an alert. So in shoer every thing has very good Internet.

Re: Motion Detection / Camera Masking?
Sadly I do understand the issues.. As I live in a Very windy and humid area, If it isn't raining or snowing my cameras appear to be upside down because the rain comes from the ground lol not really but that is what it looks like on the humid nights lol.. For me most of my outdoor cameras are on Color only.. Another thing just so you know if you don't have White Light cameras already that don't cut down on the false alerts, Sadly the IR and white LIght cameras have same issue rain, bugs, and snow reflecting off the LEDS..
What does help, No IR on in B/W or Color at night.. Using IR or White Light from different area 1 or 2 feet away from the camera lens pointing down to the same FOV can help.. IR in a different location facing in the area the camera is facing is best to keep all reflections away from the camera..
Then setup your camera system in Grids. or Zones.. Zone one for Monitor and recording full time, Can have alerts setup but with it in mind that it might be false alarm.. The zone could also use Line Crossing to help with False alerts.. Having the ability for Smart Playback is good to keep things in speedy replay.
Second zone is your Doorway camera facing away from the street and after a point of no return if you will. This one would be good to have 2 way audio or maybe Siren output.
Third zone is inside your doors in the corner of your doors wall facing the door. This is Total Motion and when you get an alert here you know its you or someone is where they don't belong..
There are others I have placed around my home some are masked and some needed a few different placements to get the right spot setup...

Re: Motion Detection / Camera Masking?
I have stumbled on to some of those, I am running with the IR off in several of my 858Ws and my front door. That has helped some with the bugs and Snow. ( not many bugs in the winter) I'm sure when it warms up it will also help with rain at night. I'm trying a new setting on my front door bell last night , I don't think It will work. I have saved the Motion detection zone with no squares highlighted just blank. I have tried hundreds of configurations on the squares from only one right outside my front door all the way to all of them or even every other one. Streaks of open squares up and down to one or two at the top, on the sides, in the corners exc. Also changing the distance Motion range. Any thing above one( close) is a string of continue alerts. that Motion Zone really seems to make very little difference. even on 1 (very close) it trigers during the day on cars 100s of feet away (daytime no Lights) That Just should not happen, on that setting. There is something else maybe you can answer for me. When I first got my second Door bell, It had Motion settings 1 through 6 Close to far, Then during a Update it went to a Motion Zones, going out on angles one through five. Now it seems to have gone back to the 1 through 6 settings. The zone 1 through 5 was really bad, Did they figure that out and some how revert back?
I did not do another update, it just happened all by it self. Keep in mind most of us out here are way out of our knowledge zone and struggle with just basic instructions that comes with the devices. Most times it seems like the people writing the manuals seem to think we can read between the lines. I don't think the clean Motion detection zone is going to work as it was on all night and not a single alert. but I have tried every other setting. Wondering what you think, still trying everything.

Re: Motion Detection / Camera Masking?
Sadly with motion on the Doorbell it is a hit and miss.. Some say that they have it working without issues I personally have to have mine on just off my porch and cover of the steps and porch,, So 3 lines out.. Past that it would trigger all the time.. Out side of this.. I had some issues when it was connected to my NVR or even one of my DVR's that I would set it on.. After some time I said heck with it and Removed all from the Doorbell camera changed out the MSD and did a Reset of the camera and when it came to life it started working like it had before this last 922 update and so I have not connected it back to a Recorder since I think it has been 2 months now.. While I do still get a few false alerts I at least get them now and I get calls when push of the button happens oddly before last reset I tried 3 different times with Resets all connecting back to my NVR and each time system didn't work right...

Re: Motion Detection / Camera Masking?
It does seem to be a hit and miss kind of thing with almost any of the cameras, including the doorbell. Its amazing to me that they all seem to have the same problems. My sons both have different brands door and plain security cameras, and very seldom have any fault alerts. They have a monthly fees and I wanted to get away from that, using the micro USBs to do the recording. Having as many locations and cameras as I have that would be like a car payment every month. If I had this going to a monitoring company they would have canceled me long ago for fault alerts.
Well it just as I thought on the door bell. With none of the squares filled in on the Motion detection zone it won't work unless some one hits the bell itself. so one square on day time only, No wonder the price keeps droping on them. I cant really move the door camera itself as I have brick on the outside of the house and the wires come out in the normal place. I have tried the reset several times. Every time the internet goes out the door bell won't log back in when the internet comes back on. It locks up and requires a hard reset to work again.. seems like a up hill climb with a head wind

I have reset it three times in a row, the last being a hard reboot for some reason it lost all information and I had to start over. I have tried all different configurations both motion detection zone and Motion range, according the app it is up to date 1.000.00AC006.0.R.200922 firmware. Gone from Motion range 1 to 6 and every thing in between. And as many configurations as I can figure out to the Motion detection zones. Including only filling in one block at a time all the way across the bottom closest to the door, Including both corners. In the middle behind planters on the porch and crisis cross patters I even tried leaving it blank ( none filled in)( we know it does not work at all that way) It only seems slightly better using the number 1 (close) and one Square right in the middle at the bottom of my door on the Motion sensing, It is a bit better in the day only alerting a few times a day. But at night it is one after another cars over 1000 feet away driving on roads no even ny my home set it off. Any Ideas. I tryed to post a picture from my front door camera, but cant figure out how to. Do you have any Ideas I am out of them Myself??
