Loud Fan
Re: Loud Fan
Ugh, let me know if you find a solution! I have my DVR in my bedroom. It's too loud to just be white noise. I hope there is a solution that doesn't void the warranty.
Re: Loud Fan
Yes. I could never place this unit in my bedroom with this amount of noise. That's why it's in the office now. It would be easier to just flick on the monitor in your bedroom instead of trying to pull it up on your phone or computer.
Re: Loud Fan
Does anyone know whether it is the case fan or the CPU fan (or both) that is causing the loudness? Has anyone tried Noctua's 5V NF-A4 x 10 which would replace the case fan?
Re: Loud Fan
Updating my earlier post, I purchased the Noctua fan and replaced the stock case fan in my 1080P DVR with it. It definitely lowers the noise, though doesn't eliminate it. The fan is 40mm x 10mm and its package comes with what you'll need: a 3 pin to 2 pin adapter and soft anti-vibration mounts to go with the fan's similar frame and blade material. Took just a few minutes to make the swap. The fan is $15 on Amazon with Prime delivery. Make sure you get the 5V version of this fan, as it was originally designed to work on 12V and Amazon sells both versions, but this application runs on 5V. Also, the air flows in the back side of the fan and out the front, labeled side of the fan (with the brand and model noted), so mount accordingly to preserve the stock fan's operation. It would be great if Amcrest/Foscam used this fan as stock equipment.
Re: Loud Fan
Thanks for the info! Is it a switch and swap? Does it fit in same spot?
Re: Loud Fan
Yes, the new fan fits in the same spot as the stock fan as it's exactly the same size: 40mm high x 40mm wide x 10mm thick. just take out the stock fan, mount the replacement, and use the provided 3-to-2 pin adapter to connect the new fan wires to the circuit board connector where the stock fan was connected.
Re: Loud Fan
Good luck! Let us know how you make out.
