Is amcrestview really secure?

Post by yomero »

I was trying to pick a user and password for my amcrestview.com account when I realized that my connection to that website is not secure

In case you haven't noticed, please see the attached screenshot. This website is not using HTTPS so everything you're sharing with this web site is basically sent in plain text (and yes, that includes your user & password). I wouldn't be surprised to know that users and passwords are stored in plain text as well on their servers

Couple of basic questions:

1) Why??? Why is this website not using HTTPS (you should at least be using it for authentication so user knows the connection is safe)

2) Any plan on using HTTPS soon? With all the security issues, it sounds like common sense to me that Amcrest tools should provide sufficient layers of security to prevent someone sneaking on our IP cameras (or a least make it more difficult).

I purchased my IP camera because of the great reviews, but not sure how a product with such great reviews can have such insecure tools.

Any comment from Amcrest will be appreciated.
