ipm-751 - Constant ftp Logins.

Postby neuman1812 » Tue Jul 30, 2019 1:29 pm

I just configured my camera with an FTP login on my NAS. Initially it failed the test. But a second try worked. Checking the logs on my NAS, I see the camera is constantly login and logout. I believe this is hitting my 3 login limit on the FTP of the nas.

Why is the camera doing this?

Not a direct answer for you but I have a WD MCM Gen2 and have experimented with both FTP and NFS connections for storage in the past. I found NFS to be much more reliable mainly because when I used FTP the first part of recordings was being lost.

Are you recording video and snapshots and how many snapshots have you configured per event? I take it that it is event driven e.g. on motion detection? I don't know but wonder if each set of snapshots or video going via FTP triggers it's own login.

Just as a matter of personal preference I've gone back to using the SD card in my IP2M-841 for storage although manually triggered snapshots/video got to my NAS.

p.s. Just looking more closely at that log and specifically the logouts, I'm guessing you've got 3 x snapshots configured. Is that right?
Using IP2M-841B and IP3M-841B both on firmware 2.520.AC00.18.R

I dont have snapshots enabled. I'd love to use NFS. But my camera model does not have that option (that Im aware of). There is the NAS option? But Im not exactly sure what that is. I think its SMB? But I'e been unable to figure out how to get that to connect.

REsolved. I switched over to NAS. IT took some googleing, but I was able to figure out the path that needed to be in the remote path field.

Currently mapped over SMB without multiple logins.

Glad that you've got it sorted.

The distinction between NFS and SMB as I understand it really comes down to NFS being native to Unix/Linux and SMB to Windows, both protocols just addressing currently available network resources.

FTP is, I think more suited for connecting to remote resources rather than on a LAN. That was my conclusion FWIW :)
