Making my first post here, please mention any issues with my post and I'll happily revise/relocate.
I'm getting my feet wet with my first IP camera (Amcrest: IP8M-T2599EW, software version: V2.820.00AC001.0.R, Build Date: 2022-08-31, web version: V3.2.1.1254246, ONVIF version: 21.12(V3.1.0.1237257)) and am planning to record streams to my home nas. Familiarizing with the web UI after power on, it became apparent there isn't a way to cleanly shutdown the device.
Reading the forums, seems like some people just pull the plug to shutdown which seems risky for data corruption in light of the constant data streams going to my nas. Others have mentioned going to SYSTEM >> AUTO MAINTAIN >> MANUAL REBOOT in the web UI then trying to "time it right" by pulling the plug when the unit seems to have shut down but before it has initiated its reboot cycle. This also seems less than ideal in terms of potentially interrupting the boot cycle and causing issues with the camera itself.
I did contact Amcrest support and was given the response "Our cameras do not have off buttons, they were designed with the intention to always stay on. The only way to turn it off will be to disconnect the ethernet connection." Again highlighting my data corruption concern.
I can't imagine this is an oversight since cleanly shutting down is such a basic requirement. Am I worried about nothing here? Should I be manually disabling the datastream being recorded by my nas before yanking the power cord or following some other procedure?
All comments and guidance are much appreciated.
IP8M-T2599EW Controlled Shutdown
Re: IP8M-T2599EW Controlled Shutdown
Hello and Welcome to the Forum.
I would go with what Support has said.. Just keep in mind. If you were in the middle of Recording footage of an event and you wanted to shut the camera down just as the event finished then there might be an issue. So if there is something that I am worried about, I would always leave the camera keep recording past the package time that you have set..
So take for instance one of my smaller Amcrest PTZ cameras, I have setup for 30min packages. There is no telling where I am in the recording of that package and if someone just broke into my shed that it is watching I wouldn't remove that camera from service until after that time has ran. It very well could have been in the start of that time and power being removed might not have finished the packet. So for me after 30 past the event time it should have been recorded and even at that for me anyway I would have more then likely went to play it back and made a copy for backup..
Most of the cameras come setup stock with a 5 or 8 minute packet.. So I would look at how long your packet time is and just remember to go past that time before pulling the plug.. Personally my guess is that your recording to your NAS should not have an issue as it should be able to finish to the last captured frame. Sometimes that might result in freeze frame at the end.. Also I would guess that your NAS will have a Packet setting for how long each segment is. So I am not sure as I only Micro SD, FTP, DVR/NVR and PC-NVR record. Never had an issue with last part of any of my files not being playable.
Info for the Picture might be only related to storage on your Local Micro SD of the camera if you use one. Personally I would for backup

Re: IP8M-T2599EW Controlled Shutdown
Thanks for the prompt reply Revo2Maxx. Point taken on letting the packet finish up. I am planning to log a low res stream continuously and not just at events, so may need to reconfigure my settings before cutting power to avoid interrupting the stream. Not a big deal, just a bit of a pain.
Anyone have experience with other manufacturers? Is this a theme with IP cameras across the board, or specific to Amcrest? Curious more than anything and wondering if there is a reason/rationale for the missing shutdown feature.

Re: IP8M-T2599EW Controlled Shutdown
I have loads of different ip cameras non of them have shutdown option unless it just to shut off lens and a few Amcrest offer that also but isn't a shutdown

Re: IP8M-T2599EW Controlled Shutdown
Thanks again Revo2Maxx, that gives me some peace of mind I don't have some oddball situation going on. I'll keep rolling with my current setup and think about adding some sd card backups as well. Very much appreciate the feedback!
