I turn of IR to avoid recording flying bugs/spiders at night. however in doing so, the camera records non-stop from nightfall to daybreak filling up the SD card regardless motion detection regions. the night setting is in almost total darkness with a couple of very fainted street lights 2 mile away in one screen corner.
the cam functions normally during the day.
- the first tech said it was scheduling issue. he reset the Schedule section to default though it was all in default settings. it didn't change a thing for the following a few nights.
- the second tech said it was the first case reported. a hardware reset would resolve this issue.
the cam is installed high in a tree and difficult to reach. a hardware reset involves removing the cam lens cover and pressing a button inside.
before making such an effort, I'd like to find out if anyone else has experienced this problem or anyone could try turning off IR yielding the same result.
thanks for reading!
IP8M-2496EB recording all night long when IR is turned off
Re: IP8M-2496EB recording all night long when IR is turned off
Before you do a factory reset, you could try this to make it not record at night. Go to Settings/Storage/Schedule and make sure that for all schedules, General and Alarm settings are not Setup or enabled. Change the Motion settings there to record only during the hours you want it to and enable Motion. Also, at top of first page that shows schedule bars, only enable Motion.

Make sure tamper is disabled or the fw will think the black video means the camera has been covered. Check the system log to verify if recorded events are motion or tamper generated.
Re: IP8M-2496EB recording all night long when IR is turned off
I'd like it to record when the motion light is set off at night, so don't want to disable night recording entirely. jrclark, what you suggested makes sense. just turned off Video Tempering and unticked Alarm (box) in Storage->Schedule.
so far looks good.
thank you both!
will report back in a couple of days...
