IP8M-2496E-V2 Cameras

Post by jinohio »

I have several of these model cameras in my system. One is at the peak of garage pointing towards driveway and road. Distance is probably about 60' to end of drive. Another is at least 50 feet further back and pointing towards the front yard which includes a portion of the same road. The further camera will pick up and record a car on the road, while the closer (driveway) camera does not pick up the event. I've set the threshold and sensitivity equal on both cameras. Does this indicate a problem with the driveway camera? I considered swapping, but not real thrilled about that idea. Any ideas?

Position of the camera matters. Facing down more then facing out can restrict cameras ability to pick up motion. One facing down even closer range is trying to do motion in that area. Picture of both would help understanding what you are working with.

The driveway camera is definitely pointing in a downward angle to view the driveway. The other one is fairly level. I wondered if that angle would affect the camera picking up movement, but figured if the zone was set to include the road, and it was in range, it should work. You have probably identified the issue! I'll post a couple pictures.

Hopefully the pictures attach. I tried to get a picture that shows the angle of the driveway camera, but it's fairly high. I added a dome camera later that is visible at the far soffit. It was added to get a view of the doors, which the upper camera could not. The dome camera actually catches everything and more than the upper one does, so I am good to try to adjust the view. The front house camera that I mentioned prior is slightly angled down, but so is the front yard and road, so it does point directly at road. The other picture is the view from driveway (high) camera.
I think I can get a long pole and "carefully" push the driveway camera up a bit. I think its worth a try.

thanks

I was able to move camera up a bit to get the road more centered in view. Now to wait for a car, or more likely a Prime delivery truck, to test out the event. The road is a dead end cul-de-sa just a hundred feet further, so not much traffic. I may have to get in car and test myself!

I'll post the results.

thanks

Quick results. I walked outside and saw a group of kids walking on the road. Came back to check recorder and they were captured. Apparently moving the camera up did the trick. It's actually all around better now too, so success.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Area on the peak should have been a PTZ of some sort with at least 12x zoom. I mean in truth that area is going to be hard to capture anything outside of the Driveway come late spring early summer when the leaves are on the trees and my guess that was the goal to capture the driveway. Sadly it is to long of a distance to capture much detail with most normal 2.8 or 3.6mm lens camera at that height. I seen there is a Turret camera at the corner so maybe you have other cameras that are doing the ID part but what I see there with the 2 images for your cameras both are Overview cameras and even with a 8mp camera will have a hard time with detail in day time and at the distance not going to do much that won't be ghosting past your hand rail. Now I am not the normal type consumer end user. But there are a few out there like me that have some advanced cameras. But in these pictures from one of my 2mp camera you can see in the first picture area of Interest and in the second picture what the area looks like with a 5mm lens seeing that camera is a 5x50mm zoom bullet camera. I have many others and some that are extreme long range of 143mm in a bullet camera that weighs more then some PTZ cameras lol.. Yes I have more then my fair share of PTZ cameras too lol.. Speaking of which I will take a couple snapshots from one of my Amcrest 20x zoom pTZ, it is older but isn't the Longests range PTZ just the longest local to me in Amcrest format.. It is only 2mp but you will see what I mean..

That's quite a zoom. I'm sure I could upgrade my system, but it's worked for what I need so far. I mainly watch what was recorded overnight while eating breakfast, which is typically deer, opossums, raccoons, and an occasional fox. Now I probably need to check the sensitivity.
