IP4M-1026 WIFI range
IP4M-1026 WIFI range
I just acquired (3) IP4M-1026 cameras, I connected 2 of them to my WIFI network, they have absolutely no reception range, if they are more than 10' - 15' from my router they will not work... I have other cameras connected at 50' that work fine so it has to be an issue with this model camera. Anyone else have this problem?
Re: IP4M-1026 WIFI range
Hello and Welcome to the Forum
It is very hard to say. I personally don't have them cameras however I do have more then my share of IP and Wifi cameras and some work better then others that is for sure... I mean I took one out of my Office to put in my Dining room because the camera I had there after 4 years died and didn't have a Cable run to that spot No more then 10 feet 20 feet away from my router and it was so bad.. However that is kind of my fault my Home is built with normal wood studs, then 5/8" drywall then has thick Grid wire that 1 inch of concrete is layered on... I had installed the Camera to close to the corner and caused interference. I moved it out a foot from the corner and now Wifi is fine.. I couldn't understand at first why one that worked on the other side of the house, other side of the driveway was working but one that was a room away only 1 wall and not 5 wouldn't keep a good connection. Then I thought I wonder if just bounce off my wire after moving just 1 foot from the corner works fine with all bars...
While this might not be your issue,, There are other things, Pipes, Wires, walls and any kinds of loads of things if there is a lot of Wifi in that area it might also interfere.. As a way to try something... Take the camera and connect it to close to where your other cameras that are working and see if the camera gets range there just an Idea... Took mine out to the Back Shed while it did connect it wasn't stable and that is about 140' from the router...

Re: IP4M-1026 WIFI range
Nothing unusual in the walls, I have tried them in various locations with the same results...However that is kind of my fault my Home is built with normal wood studs, then 5/8" drywall then has thick Grid wire that 1 inch of concrete is layered on...
Tried that, they fail, they seem to only have a 10' to 15' range after that the TX Rate drops dramatically, @ 40' it bounces around between 7.5 and 2 mbps.Take the camera and connect it to close to where your other cameras that are working and see if the camera gets range there just an Idea...
Re: IP4M-1026 WIFI range
That behavior is what happens when you have a poorly attached antenna or no antenna at all. I've seen it on my IP4M-1026.
Re: IP4M-1026 WIFI range
I think you nailed it, I took the antenna off of one and moved it around the house and the results were exactly the same with or without the antenna installed. They were sold as new on eBay, I wonder if they were defective returns... What are the odds, otherwise, of getting 3 identically defective cameras?

They work great when hooked to the Ethernet, but if I have to run cat wiring I want to go with 4K cams...
Re: IP4M-1026 WIFI range
So, what have you figured out? Bad Antenna? Bad connection inside the camera? Did you install that little O ring correctly? You have to stretch it over the antenna connector before installing the antenna. If, instead, you pushed it into the antenna plug like a garden hose washer, it might keep the antenna from connecting. Just guessing with all of this, but you figuring out the antenna made no difference on three different cameras just begs for more investigation.

Try downloading a wifi strength meter phone app and measuring the signal strength at various points. I use one called coincidentally 'Wifi Signal Strength Meter' but there are several that do about the same thing.
If you have less than -70db signal anywhere your connection to anything is going to be intermittent. I bet you find a few dead spots.
I got this outdoor access point: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0795 ... UTF8&psc=1
and set it up as WAP in my attic. Totally eliminated wifi dead spots in my house - I can get a good signal in either of my neighbor's houses also!
