IP2M-841W losing connection/can't access after few hours?

Post by mcinturf »

Hi. I've had this camera for a few weeks now and it was working great. For the last couple of days the camera seems to lose connection to wifi (strength 100%, 50mbps), or the app just won't connect. When I try to connect from phone or tab (both samsung/android) I get "failed to connect". This happens if I try through wifi or carrier data. If I unplug the camera and plug back in I can reconnect from all devices and web interface again for a few hours. This almost always happens overnight while sleeping when nothing is accessing the camera. Occasionally during the day it will fail to connect until I unplug and plug back in. I will also mention that when this occurs, the device still shows up under my router settings as a connected wireless device, but I can't connect until I unplug/plug back in. Also, other devices connected to router with much weaker signals never drop. Nothing has updated/changed with android or router. Any suggestions?

*UPDATE* I wanted to add that resetting modem and router during period that I am unable to access camera from phone, tablet or web interface does NOT solve the problem allowing me to connect again. The ONLY way to resolved "Failed to Connect" error is by unplugging the power from the camera and then plugging power back in and letting camera run through its start up cycle. So there appears to be an issue with the camera itself. Either wifi or power issue causing loss connection. May contact Amazon since i haven't had this camera long at all.

This doesn't seem like that uncommon of an issue. Nobody is ever losing connectivity or unable to access camera remotely through Amcrest View app?

Hello mcinturf ,

Not sure why this is happening. When it stops working on phone does it also stop working on the computer via ip address? If you have not tested it, please test it. Also ensure that on the web interface of the camera under setup > Network > TCP IP, you have given static IP address for the camera for the wireless adapter.

I have this same issue. For me, I have to close the app and re-open it. It fixes it everytime. So I think it's an app/camera issue.

I have the same issue. If I unplug and plug again the camera it starts working fine again. It seems to be an issue with the camera being able to recoup gracefully from a series of wifi disconnects or because the camera is in a zone where there are a lot of wifi-spots competing for the same channel. Is there any way to see system logs on these cameras? or some other way to trouble shoot to see why it is disconnecting? Thank you.

Hello xpat,

Unfortunately there is no option to get log information of the network connections.

Is there any way to trouble shoot this issue? The whole network connection thing is a hypothesis on the problem... but at least 3 people including me are reporting the same problem... so at the very least is a symptom.

Thanks

Hello xpat,

This issue seems to be limited to certain wifi routers or access points as only a few people have reported this issue. The camera always looks for wifi signals from the router so it should always remain connected even though there is occasional signal drops. Things that you can try are testing with both dynamic and static IP addresses for the camera , changing the wireless channel on the router, reserving an ip address for the camera on the router etc.

I have the same issue. After last firmware upgrade the camera stays comnected an hour or so, then it keeps rebooting and showing red light... only way to temporarily fix this is to unplug the power. Hopefully a solution comes soon

In relation to this solution, I think that some apps misbehave when the ipad/iphone has too many apps are opened.
