IP2M-841 - Crackly audio noise on new unit

Post by popenz »

I recently bought an IP2M-841W to use as a baby monitor. I have two issues with the unit, even after updating to the latest firmware;

1. The unit becomes inaccessible over the network after a period of time with no connected streams. I don't know if this is only when on wifi, so I'll do more testing.

2. There is a constant crackling noise in the audio when a stream is connected over wifi - this noise is evident on the viewing device and through the speaker on the camera. The noise mostly goes quiet when I disconnect the stream. The noise is the same when I use an external microphone. The noise does not exist when wifi is disabled (streaming over wired network). This noise accounts for 40% of the volume, so I cannot hear much else.

For 2 I think that the wifi radio is interfering with the audio signal path inside the unit - I found two similar Foscam cases (see links below). I haven't opened the unit to see whether I can isolate the internal antenna from the audio circuitry, but I obviously shouldn't need to.

Does anyone have any advice, or should I try to return the unit?

Hello popenz,

1)When that happens again, force quit the app from the phone and reopen it and see if that helps.
2) There is no such known issues with the model so I think its the camera. You can get it replaced.

Thanks @Melvin.

I'll request an RMA for this unit. I'm keen for a replacement, since it's a good camera!
