Hi all,
I was wondering if it is possible to change the lens on IP2M-841 to a wide angel lens?
Did anybody change the lens already? Couple of years ago I did this on another webcam with a lens I got from ebay.
Thx
IP2M-841 - change lens wide angel
Re: IP2M-841 - change lens wide angel
I understand your questioning and thought behind this.. I am not sure that the 841 or the line there of are the type of camera that one could change out the lens.. I have other camera from like Foscam and some odd brand that I don't even know who they are lol but the lens in them are different and are adjustable for focus where the Amcrest 841 and line there of are a different bread.. What I do know is that taking an 841 apart to get to the lens isn't something that anyone is really going to want to do.. While getting into the Camera to MB is only 4 screws, there are 4 others to remove the motherboard but after that it gets really tricky.. The area that holds the camera has a motor and cork drive unit and is setup in a very nice and tight area where parts are not only stuck together with screws but snap in parts, breaking one of them could make it hard for the camera to go back together right. Then once you get to the camera itself the lens might be the type that isn't easy to change out or might only be the little square box over the Camera sensor with lens in front that has no ability to change without the whole box so then you would need to have the size and length width and all info for the lens to fit in camera as it is now with new lens to give your FOV you want.. But to be honest why the camera is a Pan and Tilt. If it was a Static camera and no ability to move up and down then I would get it.. IF you do let me know how it turns out.. Maybe take some pictures along the way

Sorry Mis-spoke as it has been a while since I have seen the inside of my 841..
4 screws off the bottom under the feet there is nothing under the label so no need to remove it... Then the Spudder or Jimmy tool should be used to get the bottom off even a fingernail will work..
Then there is 1 screw inside holding the MB, Remove the wires you can reach without removing that screw once the Mic and Pan wiring is removed you can take out the screw and then you will need to be careful to remove the mb from the case as it has a snug fit to the back area where it slides into the case.. then you will need to remove the Tilt wires and the camera ribbon cable. This cable has a Pressure fitting that is very small laying right to left if you will the little nub needs to be in the up position before removing the wire.. Make sure to pay close attention to the placement as it will not work going in backwards..
One the MB is removed you can turn the camera so lens is facing the front aka Amcrest logo, Then you will see in the 3 holes 3 screws. You don't need to take off the Pan Motor mount or motor it is fine to stay.. Personally I wouldn't remove the wires from the Top of the bottom either. Care will need to take place and from this point there is going to be the easiest way to damage this camera at this point and will make it look really bad when you put it back together if you brake off pegs and dome remove the 2 sides with care... Personally if you have little knowledge working on these kinds of things I personally would try.. However once you have the right and left side apart you will be able to lay the side with the camera wires and motor off to the side while you dig more...
I am going to say looking at the camera it is a FIXED lens. This lens is going to be a Square bottom that will connect to the sensor board it isn't adjustable and when you find a lens you will need to make sure that it will have the same depth so it is flush with the camera or if it is out to much might lower the quality of IR when working in night with IR on...
I have 2 POS Foscams 1mp and a 1.3mp and another camera that is like 841 just older models all them have different lens with focus rings and I would say even looking at them they would be easier to replace the lens but they are kind of built the same way as the 841 so they would face the same challenges of getting to the cameras Foscams would be the easiest of changing them out but still have to do loads of taking things apart to get there...
Really with the cameras being a Pan and Tilt camera why would one need a Wider FOV? Moving the camera back from the scene gives it a wide path already... I have one camera that I have to zoom in some to get it at the FOV I want for that given scene... I have taken 4 pictures of my cameras and put them together into 1 picture so you can see what I am talking about.. As seen the 841 is the Top Left camera..
