How to Stop Camera IP Address From Changing?

Post by Swampgoat »

Can anyone tell me in a clear, step one, step 2, etc way how to assign a permanent IP address to my wireless cameras? (I lack a comprehensive knowledge of networking and its terms, but I can access my router, enter Mac codes, etc. especially if done in a step by step list.)

Thank you.

You can accomplish this by one of 2 ways: by changing the settings in the cameras; or by setting up DHCP reservation in your router. Both methods will require you to access the settings in your router. I can help you but first tell me the make and model of your router as well as the models of the cameras.

Thank you t84a, I appreciate any help that you provide.

I have 2 wireless Amcrest cams, a 1080P WiFi w/ pan/tilt (IP2M-841P) and a ProHD Bullet (IP2M-842B).

My router is from ATT U-verse, manufactured by Pace, Model 5268AC FXN.

You mention 2 approaches. It is my eventual goal to have the cams record to either my iMac, my Time Capsule external hard drive, a new hard drive that I will buy or an Amcrest NVR that I will buy. I have no clue to what’s best or how to do it yet. But I mention this if it helps decide which of the two approaches should be chosen.

Ok, correct me if I'm wrong. This is a gateway and you have telephone service through it as well.

You need to be able to log in. Sometimes these things are shipped with the login info on a sticker on the unit. Check there first. The default IP for the gateway should be 192.162.1.254.

Once you're logged in, go to Settings, LAN, DHCP. You need to change the DHCP Network Range. Set it to 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.100. Click Save

You can exit the Gateway setup for now.

Next are the cameras. You can use the Amcrest IP tool to modiy the IP address of the cameras. I'll add another post from my PC.

Ok, download, install, and open the Amcrest IP Config tool. All of your connected cameras should show up. Highlight the cameras one at a time and click on login. Use either the default username and password or the new one if you set one up. Click on the Net tab. Depending on whether you are using ethernet or wifi, select the appropriate one in the drop down box.

Uncheck DHCP. You will then set the IP, Subnet Mask, Gateway, and ports.

For CAMERA 1 use:
IP: 192.168.1.161
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.1.254
Mac: N/A
TCP: leave alone
HTTP: 1501
UDP: leave alone
RTSP: 3501

For CAMERA 2 use:
IP: 192.168.1.162
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.1.254
Mac: N/A
TCP: leave alone
HTTP: 1502
UDP: leave alone
RTSP: 3502

For CAMERA 3 use:
IP: 192.168.1.163
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.1.254
Mac: N/A
TCP: leave alone
HTTP: 1503
UDP: leave alone
RTSP: 3503

For CAMERA 4 use:
IP: 192.168.1.164
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.1.254
Mac: N/A
TCP: leave alone
HTTP: 1504
UDP: leave alone
RTSP: 3504

That's it. I'm sure you'll have questions along the way. Post them here. If you want, you can download AnyDesk (help desk software) to your PC and I can connect to your PC and you can watch me do one of the cameras or something. Good luck.

The router fix worked well. I'm working on the cams but many time constraints prevent me from finishing before tonight. I'll be sure to give a final report though.
