How to connect to main/substream

Post by Alpejohn »

Hi,
Is there different addresses for connecting to the main/substream?

Where can I find them?

The video on my phone (using tinycam) has some glitches and stuff so I want to use the substream.
But I don't know how to connect to it, or how these work when setting up in an app.

Hope anybody know. :-)

Regards
Fredrik

The main and sub streams are multicast on the same IP address. I don't know anything about tinycam, but the Amcrest app has a simple icon (labeled "HD") that lets you choose "HD" or "SD" (High Definition or Standard Definition), which are the main and sub streams.

I read something about different ports for main/sub..
But I don't know.. I would think there must be some kind of way to choose..

I don't know much about it, but check your camera's config page, under Network, select Multicast. It should show the default ports for the main and sub streams (40000 and 40016). I'm not sure how you might use that information to your advantage, but I remembered seeing it when exploring my camera's settings.

Also, the mcast IPs do NOT need to be the same. By default, they are but that is a design choice - not a requirement.
