How do I switch WIFI Networks for my IP2M-841 IP Cams?

Post by dljone1 »

I have 2 IP2M-841 IP cameras. To beef up the security of my smart home devices, I've switched them to a 2.4 guest network so that they will be separate from the main wifi network.

These cams are the only devices left. How do I switch these to the new network? I had a difficult time setting them up. I'm hoping there is an easy way to switch networks.

Can you please step me through the process?

It really easy to setup and change from one Wifi to another...

You will want to log in, Then click on Setup, Then network, then Wifi. You will or should see a list of wifi in your area click on the one you want to setup to then a box will come up and ask you for a Password Enter the Password and then save.. Then your system will log you out Then you can log back into the camera at the new location... One thing I would say is you might want to change over to DHCP in your network TCP/IP under Wifi because if your system would assign you a ip address you want that.. However here comes the tricky part you could keep it Static but problem is the change to another wifi is or most like will be different Ip then one you have now.. If your able to keep the same IP then no problem... I have mine setup to not only give out a Guest IP on a different segment but also on a different Subnet that way there is no trying to access my local network off the Guest network...

So if it was me... I would first log on, go to setup, then network, tcp/ip click on wifi if not default change to default, then I would change to DHCP. Save.. It will log you out. Then Log into the Ip given, then again go to setup, network this time click on WIFI and then a list will come up of routers around you click on the want you want to change to type in new Password and save.. Log out and it will log you back in that cameras IP... Log in the camera, Setup, network, TCP/IP wifi as default, change to Static, if Ip change is needed make that change now. Save and it will log you out again and now log in to new IP

Before I read your post, I logged in and assigned my camera to the guest network. It worked - sort of.

The router (Netgear Nighthawk) shows my Front Door cam as part of the guest network. It kept the IP address of my Front Door cam. The live feed works just fine on my Android Amcrest View Pro app. However, I have 2 problems:

1. After I logged into the camera and changed the wifi network and password. It logged me out. Unfortunately, it won't let me log back in.

2. The Amcrest Surveillance app that I use on my WIN10 laptop does not recognize my Front Door cam. On the devices page, the Online Status says Offline(Can not find network host).

Any suggestions?

You didn't setup the DHCP? If not and dont know the IP your NightHawk should give you a IP address then you will need to make the changes to the App to Reflect the right IP..'

To be Fair if it was Me I would Delete the camera form the App and reinstall it as P2P then you don't have to worry about the IP because your logging to the camera over the SN not the IP or you can as I was saying before log on the app do a Change of info on the camera in the app and change to the right IP right now it is trying to connect over the Old IP...

To the original poster: Are you sure you understand how the guest network works? It is not a separate network. Devices logged into the guest network can only get to the Internet. They cannot talk to any other device on the network. Is that what you want? If you want to talk to your cameras without going through an outside server, they shouldn't be on your guest network.

It works!

I basically did a factory reset and got both of my cameras to work. Funny thing is, it works better than it has in years. What I mean is since I got fiber cable, I could never get both cameras to work through the Amcrest app. I was convinced that I had to use a static IP address for the second camera. Today, I was able to set both cameras up using P2P. Hooray! I don't need the static IP anymore (saving me $10/month)

Thanks Revo2Maxx for all your help!
