FTP server test failure, list right loss

Post by cdntelco »

The latest update to my camera killed my FTP connectivity.

2.420.AC00.17.R, Build Date: 2017-03-22

When I try to use the Test button under the storage tab, I get the message:

FTP server test failure, list right loss.

I'm not sure if it will be able to write files to the FTP server anymore, but it doesn't sound like it. It fails to write the test.

Ok, I just verified that the FTP test file is in fact written to the server. The web interface just reports it as a failure.

Update:
The alarm footage seems to be writing to the server too. Looks like a false alarm for a bug, other than the web interface error message.

No, there is something going on. I received the same error and I'm trying to record 24/7 and it won't upload anything via FTP. Everytime there is a new firmware, more bugs.

I'm getting this error message after upgrading. I'm kinda aghast that my ftp settings got erased on the firmware update. shouldn't this be stored in a config file some where. anyway. i can't use ftp. i test, get this error and it doesn't work. great amcrest.

I just upgraded and got the same "list loss" error message,but noticed the test files were on the server. ALL my FTP settings were erased, though... that was a real bummer.

I have another Amcrest cam that, once I set it up to FTP snapshots, only works for a few days, and then stops FTPing snapshots. I have to go outside, take it down, reset everything up again and put it back. A huge pain in the butt. It works for a few days, and stops. I can stream live video and do everything else but it won't FTP snapshots. It's brand new - I'm at a loss ... I have 13 Foscams and have been looking to replace them. I have four Amcrest cams now but not sure if I'll be buying any more...

This looks like a firmware issue - I just traced the traffic from my camera to my linux box. There is incorrect number of leading slashes (/) in the paths.

Resulting in 'FTP server test failure, list right loss.' which will not enable the FTP option in the web ui.
I *was* going to migrate away from my older d-link cameras, but I need this working first.

Has this FTP store issue ever been fixed? I've had this problem, unknowingly, since 2017. I've just tried both versions available on https://amcrest.com/firmwaredownloads#discontinued both still have the issue.

It's pretty sad that this issue was never resolved by amcrest, so not going to purchase another camera from them, however I was able to get this to partially work.

I'm using vsftpd as the FTP server. Basically you have to chroot the ftp user, however this comes with the limitation of not being able to specify a remote directory in the destination ftp config.

In the vsftpd.conf add the following to lines and restart the daemon:

Code: Select all

chroot_local_user=YES
allow_writeable_chroot=YES
In the amcrest ftp configuration ensure the remote directory is blank, save and run the test.

thanks, that fixed my permissions error so the test now succeeds, but where are the ftp'd files stored?
