I have two Amcrest IP cameras that send email notifications with a snapshot when activity is detected. It stropped working on Oct. 1 2024.
I was advised years ago to use Outlook for the email and earthlink and gmail stopped working. Now outlook is not working. I suspect that Microsoft tighten up the security on outgoing e-mails and no longer allow TLS.
Anyone else having this problem and have a solution?
Email notifications stopped working
Re: Email notifications stopped working
Well I know that both of my personally email server host changed how my Email was going to work. Changing from ability to use any form of email format to SSL/TLS and then again a few month ago got an email stating that we needed to update our servers to support higher TLS support or our email would no longer be honored. So I updated all my systems to support the newer TLS and I am still getting my emails that my .info serves and tested out my .com email outgoing servers and they are still working as well.
Before the change, I confirmed with Amcrest that my systems were all using updated TLS and was confirmed they were all up to current standard. So all emails are still being sent. I would contact your provider and ask for info about the requirements for your smtp server. Maybe they no longer support TLS offered and have to use SSL support? on port 465

Thank but SSL won't work either.
The servers are microsoft's, outlook.com
The documentation online says that basic auth is being deprecated (I suspect it was a week ago) and that Modern Auth/OAuth2 is required.

Re: Email notifications stopped working
Well I don't use outlook for my email server, I do have a few different accounts that I could use, I will have to go try and setup one seeing last I knew needed to setup a app password type thing. I personally hate these seeing I have so many devices. I might be wrong but if I remember right and might have been another service, when you change the app password because it was forgot it removes the old one..
Anyway I will try to setup using my MSN account and see if that works, report back what I find. If it works for me this late in the game then maybe I can give some details on what I did so it works.
I have couple of my own servers because of all the issues in the past, One from Network Solutions and because of the change in SMTP server some of my older cameras/DVR/NVRs didn't like the new path so I got a second one using InMotion Hosting and that one works for all my devices

Re: Email notifications stopped working
You know what, after looking at my account and all the failed attempts of trying to hack my account, I am not going to be using my MSN or any outlook accounts that I have to access my machines. I am not sure why there are so many attempts on my account but I don't want to add anything that someone might be able to get access to my accounts.
Seeing I control my servers that I use to send and receive emails if something does happen to get past I will just restore a backup to my server and change my passwords. I have had my accounts for many years and don't need someone taking control. Already happened once like 15 years ago and took long enough to get that one back.

Re: Email notifications stopped working
Thanks for trying. I suspect the only solution is for Amcrest to update the firmware to use IAuth to authenticate to the SMTP server.

Re: Email notifications stopped working
I have the same problem.
Yes the Amcrest software needs updating to newer authentication methods.
I don't want to set my email to have lower security to get the camera emails again.
I don't think you can anyway...
I had a dig around on the MS Outlook site and found this, see attachment.
SMTP needs "Oauth/Modern Auth" settings to work
Gmail has turned off the ability to use a cached email password that's why I sent to Outlook but that's turned off now as well.
I found another forum post that suggested hotmail but I haven't tried it.

Re: Email notifications stopped working
I can confirm that Gmail DOES work for sending email events from Amcrest cameras. It is working today, right now.
The instructions provided by Amcrest tech support are accurate.
You must enable MFA on your Gmail account so that "app passwords" can be created.
After you create an app password, select the Gmail interface on the Amcrest camera.
Use TLS and port 587.
Google has made accouncements about eventually discontinuing access by "less secure apps" and presumably app passwords, but app passwords do still work.
I can also confirm that Outlook app passwords do not seem to work on Amcrest cameras.
DavMail, a popular, free MS Exchange and Office 365 Gateway does work as a gateway for Amcrest event emails to be sent through MS Exchange email accounts. But setting up DavMail is more complicated than just getting a Gmail account.

I can confirm Yahoo app passwords also do not work.
