I paid $50 extra for the dual-band unit. It only connects to the wifi router's 2.4 GHz band. The cable modem (with built-in router) is dual-band so it has 2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz wifi bands. While setting up the Amcrest wireless camera, there is no choice as to which band it will use to connect to the wifi router.
The wifi in my smartphone uses 2.4 GHz to connect to the wifi router. Why would that prevent the Amcrest wireless camera from using 5.0 GHz to connect to the router? From what I can tell, the smartphone and Amcrest camera are not directly connecting to each other via wifi (as they would via Bluetooth). They connect through the wifi router. Or does the View Pro app on the smartphone actually connect via wifi directly to the Amcrest wifi camera? That seems undoable since it would mean I would have to be within range of the Amcrest wifi camera to use the app on the smartphone.
I wanted the wireless camera to use the 5 GHz band to get its high volume of video traffic off the 2.4 GHz band used by my smartphones. The manual mentions "dual" just once but never says how to get the camera to connect to one wifi band of the other.

Dual-band camera only connects at 2.4 GHz

Hello VanguardLH,
If you are setting up the camera on wifi using the phone app, the phone must be connected to the same WIFI. Otherwise you need to configure it through the computer using the cameras web interface.

Hmm, thought I added a reply to this thread but upon later review don't see it here. I suspect the CAPTCHA intervention for flood control is causing loss of some replies.
I'm wondering if I reset the camera and then use the "Ethernet wireless" setup method if then I could get the camera to use the 5 GHz band to the wifi router. During setup, the camera would be connected via Ethernet (wired) so it should not matter on what band the smartphone is later communicating with the router and then from the router to the camera.

Hello VanguardLH ,
Yes resetting the camera and then delete the camera from the app as well and use the Ethernet wifi configuration and I believe that will work.
