Hello,
I bought the IP2m-841B. I have been able to set it up over the internet and set everything up with no problems. But I have two questions.
1) I want to set the camera up directly to a computer either through the USB Power supply cable or through the Ethernet cable. I'm going to set the camera up at a location that does not have any internet and I would like to set up the focus area exactly. The camera has a SD Card and is set up for motion only. I know it will work now but I would rather be able to take a laptop to the site and set it up exactly as I want.
I know this requires me to set up the computer to have a static IP address which I have tried but I can't get the camera to recognize the IP address. Basically I set up the static IP address (at least I think I'm doing it correctly) then I connect the camera to the computer via Ethernet cable. I then type in the static IP address into explorer but it doesn't recognize anything. The computer is running Windows XP.
2) When I am playing back the motion detected videos over the internet ("logged in" to the camera's IP address) and I select to download the video that is stored on the SD Card it downloads somewhere but I don't know where. I want to be able to save certain videos to the computer hard drive then format the SD Card so it will hold more video. Any help on how to save those files directly to a computer hard drive would be helpful.
Thanks,
Connect IP Camera directly to Laptop
Re: Connect IP Camera directly to Laptop
Hello Phillipa ,
It is possible to hardwire the camera to computer using Ethernet cable. By this method you will only be able to access the camera locally from that computer as the Network is limited to camera and the PC. In this set up, you need to assign a static ip address on the LAN adapter of the PC (set it to 192.168.1.100). Now when the camera is connected it will default the ip address 192.168.1.108. So you can access the camera by typing in that ip address into the browser (not the ip you set up in the LAN as its the ip for the adapter not the camera).

Is Windows software used to record video, plus control pan and zoom included in the package or do you have to obtain a third-party?

Hello DKDiveDude,
Yes the Amcrest Surveillance Pro software can be used to record videos and control PTZ.
