I went through the whole set up process (not as easy as advertised by the way) with my brand new IP2M-841B camera by using the Android app. I was prompted to set up a user and a password which I did, but at the end of the set up, I got a "User does not exist" error
So I had to do the whole thing from scratch again but this time, rather than choosing my own user and password, I had to use admin/admin and that was the only way I was able to get rid of that error.
I was later prompted to change the password for something more secure (which makes sense). My question is...how do I change the username?? I believe I should be able to change the username to something that is not "admin", but haven't found a way to do it. Any help will be really appreciated
To change the username for the camera, you need to login to the web interface of the camera from a PC. Then go to Setup>System> Accounts. There you can add new user accounts or edit the current user details.
I found Setup>System>Manage Users>Modify User. In this window, there is the possibility to modify the password, but not the User Name (there is a non-editable list, showing "admin").
This was attempted with Chrome; I tried Firefox, but it is no good at all, "Failed to load the plug-in!"
So, could you post a YouTube video on how to do this?
I was trying to change the user name also. I tried deleting the admin user name/profile. It wouldn't let me. So I created a new user with the user name and password I wanted (with admin privilege), logged out, and then logged back in as my new user. I then tried to delete the entire admin user profile, but got the message that it is a "reserved account". With the user account admin always active, it seems less secure (since people know the user name is admin). I guess I can put some long/non-word password in for the admin profile to keep that less hackable and then just use my added unique user name and password as my main.
You can't. What's the big deal? Just add another admin account. Most devices are set up this way. I have a $200 Dahua camera and the admin account is "reserved". Add an account and move on.
Interesting, this is the first and only of many, many devices I've worked with which has a permanent "admin" account. It makes sense that your dahua has this since Amcrest is rebranded dahua product.
The majority of devices I've used typically have a pop-up window advising to change the default username for security purposes. Any attacker targeting our devices now is guaranteed to know the admin user account name.

The big deal is brute-force hacking, the easiest and most common way to hack anything. Any troll just scanning through ip's and ports can detect an exposed amcrest login screen, and sit there trying passwords. Time is then your enemy.
The workaround, not a solution, is to generate a complex 24 or more character password for the admin account and then store it in a safe place (or just dispose of it). Then you can also set up a lockout in one of the set-up screens to lock camera access after a user-specified number of failed passwords. It won't be hacked.
