Can't connect to RSTP streams on new Amcrest NV4116E NVR

Post by wesblog »

Hello,

I have set up my new Amcrest NV4116E-hs NVR with 5 camera connected via the NVRs PoE ports.

My last NVR could serve as a switch and ensure the NVR and cameras all lived on my home router's default IP gateway/network. But it seems like the Amrest always functions as a router and assigns new IP addresses to the cameras outside my home network. Is there anyway I can change this behavior?

Also, I can't seem to access any of the RTSP streams with a URL. I've tried dozens of variations of this URL: rtsp://[username]:[password]@[IPaddress]:554/cam/realmonitor?channel=[channel]&subtype=[stream]
And I've tried using tinycam monitor, VLC, and ispy to connect but they all fail.
I have port forwarding functioning for 80 and 554 so I know that is not the problem

Does anyone have any recommendations? I may have to return the NVR to Amazon if I can't resolve these issues.

Hi Wesblog,

Just yesterday I figured out how to pull the rtsp stream, but I had to modify the information I had received from Amcrest to get it to work. Might work for you, not sure. Anyway, the rtsp url you normally find online is this:
rtsp://[username]:[password]@[IPaddress]:[port]/cam/realmonitor?channel=[channel]&subtype=[stream]
I tried tons of variations on this, and finally got it to work by changing a single character:
rtsp://[username]:[password]@[IPaddress]:[port]/cam/realmonitor?channel=[channel]?subtype=[stream]

Change the & to ?
That's it...took me a week off an on trying different things, and that's all. As for the other parts of the url, you may already know this, but:
- rtsp port is generally 554, but check the camera settings
- channel is 1 for me (single channel cam)
- subtype is 1 to pull the substream, 0 to pull the main stream

As for your first question, when I set up my home surveillance cameras I went to the camera settings and changed DHCP to static, and assigned each camera a static ip address. Once you do that it will not change.

Hope that helps
