Camera is not Detected by Switch

Post by PoopsInTub »

I have an IP8M-T2599EW, which I am trying to power via a TL-SG2008 PoE switch. I plug it in, but get nothing. There is no indication on the camera, and the switch does not detect a device on the port. I'm looking through the software interface for the switch and don't see anything about enabling PoE to a port; so, I'm assuming power is automatically supplied. I'm just hoping the camera isn't a dud.

I had a 12v power supply lying around and decided to try it out instead of doing PoE. It works... Was the PoE feature just false advertising?

Hello and Welcome to the froum

1 I can tell you that Amcrest don't Falses Advertise about the products that they offer. While it might say that it works with Mac/Win and then there is an update that makes it so it don't work with Mac for some time or longer then people with Mac wish it would.. However if it says it is a POE camera then it works POE.

Did you buy it new? Have you tested it with your POE switch and a different cable? Have you tested any other device on the port that you tried it on?

I don't know anything about the TP link switch. From what it looks like is that it is a 12v input and depending on what switch you are using seeing they have that model in a few different flavors. However the only one I know about using 12v and is said to work with POEaf and AT and they must be doing some magic with the circuit inside to get it to work in both formats.

Anyway I would guess that the issue is the Switch. Might be bad power supply where it can work under normal use of a switch but when it needs to provide power that it fails I don't know but I have a few friends that have this camera and some of them use it with a POE switch and others are using them with POE NVR. They only use the Ethernet cable for connection.

So if you bought it new, and you tested it that it won't work on a known good working POE NVR or Switch then I would ask for a RMA and get a replacement.

With your Switch. I would try a different cable as a way to start. POE will have 2 wires for data and 2 wires for power with some others as backup if all 8wires are used. However most cameras only use 6 of the 8 normally and others might be shared.

So in the end. My guess is bad cable and or Switch. If it is a Managed Switch I would make sure that POE is enabled on the port your trying to use.

Sorry I don't know what all you tried to get it working. I just know it is rare for a POE camera to not work over POE unless it was damaged in a Lightning storm or other unknown reason.
Be Safe.
