API to pull video frames

Hey guys, just got my 1080P cam so I'm totally new to the hardware and API. Does anyone have example codes to pull video frames onto a desktop PC. I'm used to Ubuntu but I'm ok with Win 7 or OS X so feel free to post codes that work in either platform.

I want to run some codes (C, python or R) in real time to scan the live feed of the camera. The PC would be on the local wifi network as the cam, so networking shouldn't be an issue.
