A newbie

Post by Oscar99 »

I have set up a camera in a 5 suite condo, using my wifi network. How can other owners log on to view live shots. I trust they won’t be using my network for other things. Do I have to bit a sd micro as it seems to record video.
Thanks,
Gary

Hello and welcome to the forum.

You don't say what camera you have got or how you have set it up but most likely, you've set up P2P access to view the camera from devices 'outside' your own network.

If this is the case and you want to allow other people to access the camera then most importantly you should create a new user and make sure that they have only got minimal permissions simply to view and not have control of the camera.

P2P works by a user contacting a remote server with details of the camera (it's serial number) and the user/password. The server then returns the information that the user's device requires to connect directly to the camera. As I understand the system, the server then plays no further role and the video stream is passed from the camera directly to the user, so yes using your network capability and bandwidth.

A very common misunderstanding when things don't work well is that (here in the UK at least) internet connections are not symmetric, you might have perhaps 50 Mbps download speed but your upload speed might only be 8 Mbps. When a camera is being streamed over that 8 Mbps the bandwidth very quickly runs out and things don't work any more.

There's no harm in trying it out but best to be aware of possible limitations.

I should add that I don't use P2P myself and in fact I'm very careful to prevent my NVR and all my cameras having access to the internet on the basis of my own distrust :)

As already said Hello and Welcome to the Forum

I do use the P2P in the USA and I am not sure how it works outside of the USA however from what I hear other have said that it contacts Servers in other countries so I am going to guess it works almost anywhere.. The good thing about P2P is that you don't have to open any ports or open your network to others that might have other things in mind to play within your network. P2P in a since punches a hole in your network hidden to the outside world and only info from SN of a Camera or DVR/NVR and password for the user will have access..

As said before there is no server storing your data that you are connecting to to get the data this is a Peer to Peer connection and the Server is only there to make sure the connection is still valid and to listen for your Ping asking for access. Once it hands off the connection to your cell there is only you and the Camera or Recorder talking just like you would from within your own network...

I have to many devices to have all them ports and things open and so I do use P2P I have not had any Rogue Connections

Also with these connections they are Digital and don't seem to take up to much bandwidth or at least nothing I notice on my 10 x 60 connection 10 up and 60 down..
Be Safe.

How do you add other remote users for this ip camera? How do you put the sod micro card in? Can you use the amercrest smart home app?
Frustrating business,

I don't know about ASH cameras/software and I suspect that they are best dealt with separately to your 941, for which in the web user interface you just go to System/Manage Users/Add User.

The new user could access the camera by installing Amcrest View Pro on their phone and add your camera using Device Manager/Add device/WiFi Camera/WiFi Configuration Setup/Enter S/N Manually with the new user name and password. You should never reveal the camera serial number other than to people you trust.
