formatting SD card

Post by jimh12345 »

I'm puzzled. I put an SD card in a new camera, but it isn't showing up. I already had one camera with a card, works fine.

I open Surveillance Pro/Devices, click on the cog icon, select the camera, go to Storage/HDD manager, no card is shown.

Was there something I was supposed to do to format the card? If so I can't find it in any of the documention.

(Tried to search this Forum on "SD card" but got the message that those words were "too common". Gee thanks.)

In my experience it is best to avoid ASP and use the camera web interface for such purposes. What do you see in the webgui storage/sdcard?

All I've used is the Android app and ASP.
I remember a web interface a couple years ago, but as I recall it was deprecated and the Chrome plugin disappeared.

So what's the preferred access method today? Is it "Pale Moon" or something else?

I'm afraid I've got no experience of Android devices.

The camera presents a user interface on the LAN which can be accessed simply by typing in the camera IP address in a web browser. Personally speaking I do this using a Win10 PC and as I say, experience has taught me that it's the webgui that is the most reliable.

p.s. - having said that, on my system (the Win10 PC that is) ASP does show the presence of my SD cards and report the free/used space accurately although it calls them "HDD1".

Thanks I'll try that next time I'm physically in the shop.

After some more research - I think the problem is that the camera can't use an SDXC card. Maybe it could if the card were formatted as fat32, but I'll just get a different card and try it.

Update - formatted an SDXC card as FAT32, but that didn't work either.

Update update: MEA CULPA. I actually didn't have the SD cards fully inserted - it isn't obvious, but I needed to use a thumbnail to get it in ALL the way until it clicked. So I don't know if SDXC works. I may try one again in the future. For now, it's using a FAT32 card.

Excellent, good news and thanks for updating with the outcome. It's sad that not everyone comes back to let us know what the answer to the problem was.
