A night time visitor.
A night time visitor.
But not unwelcome on this occasion. This was caught last night by one of my cameras which 'look' out through a window. https://youtu.be/cYsUQVPuC8I

Re: A night time visitor.
I really wish I could put some cameras at better locations to catch some of my night visitors lol.. However your Owl was awesome looking.. I would trade you for my Albino Skunk lol..
Be Safe.
Re: A night time visitor.
- I think it shows the answer to the question that regularly comes up about whether you can switch the camera IR lights off to avoid glare back from windows and still get acceptable results at night, you can but with the aid of external IR illumination.

Re: A night time visitor.
If you want the owl to come back you need to swap out the motion detector for something wildlife-friendly like amber lighting. They dont like most lights, especially ones that turn on and off while they are trying to hunt or mate. Make sure any yard lighting is "shielded" in that you dont have the light source directly visible but rather aimed down at the ground.longedge wrote: ↑Sat Aug 15, 2020 2:47 am But not unwelcome on this occasion. This will improve *your* night vision as well because it eliminates glare.
1+ on the recommendation to add supplemental IR illumination. Amcrest has a big advantage in being able to dim or turn its IR illumination completely off and let you use other infrared sources.
Re: A night time visitor.
It was pure chance that I caught the owl. I do have some other cameras for a birdbox and a feeding table but this one is set up as a security camera first and foremost. I believe that apart from good locks, the best deterrent to criminals is to make sure there are no dark corners in which to lurk
The garden is covered by 2 sources of IR lighting and 4 sources of 'normal' light.
