Over max 256 channel(s)

We have several Amcrest NVRs. Upon adding more NVR's to ASP, I get the error message, "Device ***, over max 256 channel(s) Channel limit, as to log out this device." Then NVR's, usually at the bottom of the list logout. It appears in the bottom right corner then disappears. It seems like ASP enumerates each NVR, and once it gets to 256 cameras, it quits.

Has anyone seen this? Is this a hard coded limit? Any ideas how to work around it ?
