ash26 cam will not play video in ASP NETSDK error

I've been trying to get ASP to connect to my ASH26 camera without success. Trying to view live will just show 'failed to open video!' error. Attempting to play recorded video gives 'Failed to start playback. NETSDK returns error.' Searching this error just gives me others who have this problem, but no solution has ever been provided or noted. Is there any fix? All works fine in the SH app.
