Re: Stop Motion Notifications / Keep Doorbell Ring Notifications

Post by Oliverjschramm »

On Jan. 20th Amcrest support sent me this message.

"The motion detection setting should only be accessed via the smart home app. If you have adjusted any setting for the doorbell using the NVR, you could have potentially bricked the unit's motion detection capabilities. To fix this you will need to remove the doorbell from the NVR and reset the doorbell to factory settings.

The only settings that you would need to adjust in order to get the NVR to record the motion events of the doorbell on to the HDD would be to adjust the recording settings in the storage section of the NVR's settings.

As for the notifications, unfortunately, there is currently no method of singling out the motion detection settings from the doorbell call notification. I would recommend adding this feature request to our forums so that our team can look into possibly adding it as a feature in an upcoming update for the doorbell/smart home app.

Apparently if you change any motion settings through the NVR, all motion detection stops. I did this and my NVR no longer was recording motion events even though the PUSH notifications were still coming in on my phone.

We need a proper solution to this.

i have set up motion detection settings through the nvr and the nvr continues to record both regular and motion detection. all motion detection recordings and motion detection push notifications to the phone have stopped. i think in some ways, this is a blessing in disguise for one main reason--the doorbell's PIR does not distinguish motion from people. :geek:

before having set up motion detection from the nvr, i have set motion detection zones with 3 squares and motion range set to 1 from the smart home app. i used to get all kinds of false motion detection notifications on the phone resulting from passing car headlights, day/night ir flipping at night, fog water droplets getting lit up by infrared, insects getting lit up by infrared, evening rain drops, etc. i've begun to ignore the doorbell who cried wolf. false notifications are worst at night because of car headlights. i think to mitigate this, we're supposed to use motion schedule to pause motion detection in the evening.

now the nvr with the same 3 motion detection squares, i still get false motion detection recordings resulted from passing car headlights, day/night ir flipping at night, fog water droplets getting lit up by infrared, insects getting lit up by infrared, evening rain drops, etc. at least false nvr motion detection recordings are not as frustrating as false motion detection push notifications to the phone.

i think as long as i get push notifications when someone actually rings the doorbell, i think i can cope with that. ;) i'm not touching motion detection on the smart home app because i don't want to disable the nvr's motion detection. i think they overwrite each other's motion detection instructions. i agree we need a better solution.

Changing the motion scheduler will not only stop motion notifications during that time but will also stop recording motion events at that time. There is also a "push notification scheduler" but it turns off all notifications, including doorbell presses. I would think it would be a very easy update for the app.
The amcrest support told me to post about this in the forum, but it doesn't seem like any Amcrest employees are reading or responding to any posts.
How do we actually get a feature implemented or bug fixed??

i just tested the doorbell to validate if push notification works and it works. the doorbell also recorded me pushing the doorbell. the nvr is doing the motion detected recordings. i think for as long as the nvr continues to record motion detection and i get push notification after someone actually ringed the doorbell, i'm good right? i'm more careful now with testing because this is my second doorbell and i don't want to brick another one.

Any update on this? I clicked the little motion icon to disable motion notifications today but then I realized that this stops the camera from recording. Now in order for the camera to record, I have to be constantly notified whenever my kids go in and out of the door. This should be an easy fix. I hope Amcrest will update the app with this feature soon.

This thread is a year old and I think this feature has already been added. In my Amcrest SmartHome app I have a Motion Detection line then a few lines below that there is the Call Notification line with a toggle and then several lines below that a Push Notification toggle. With motion detection turned on, Call Notification on and Push Notification off I get the behavior I believe you are wanting- recordings of motion detection events with no constant beeping of notifications on your phone and still get notifications on the phone of someone ringing the doorbell. I will verify that later today when everyone wakes up.

Didn't work for me. As soon as I disable push notifications I don't get anything from the app when the doorbel is pressed. Even if I'm in the app at the time it's pressed.
