I also just ordered today and as an owner of the 110 since it first debuted (and having experienced all the maddening sever/firmware fiascos) I’ll hopefully be able to provide some useful review commentary. Amazon says shipping in a week or two.

My order shipped today. According to the FedEx tracking info, it should be delivered Tuesday. I'll try to give my thoughts here after having had a chance to use it for a few days. I'm hoping the dual-band WiFi chipset and internal antenna design will be a step above the AD110, which struggles to maintain a strong connection, despite being only a few feet from the nearest Orbi satellite.

Amcrest cameras in general have always struggled with WiFi connectivity, from my experience of having owned several models over the past six years. Whenever I can, I connect their Ethernet port to a WiFi bridge, which maintains a solid network connection. Of course, this isn't an option for the AD110 or the floodlight camera, which don't have Ethernet ports.

Having said that, I was pleasantly surprised by how well the ASH22-W camera maintains a strong WiFi connection. I was so pleased, in fact, that I purchased a few more to replace some of my older models. I really hope this is a sign of things to come with regards to their newer models.

The AD410 arrived. I have it USB powered for now. The AD410 streams to Blue Iris via RTSP. The picture looks good. I was not able to add it to Amcrest View Pro on iOS. I filed a support request, and the reply was that it should be added in a newer version of the app. Amcrest View Pro on Android works fine with the AD410. Once iOS support happens, I will try mounting it.

Here’s a quick review (I am replacing an AD110)

Pluses:
Video quality seems good
Seems faster to ring mechanical bell and provide notifications
Several features beyond those of the AD110 and that I didn’t see advertised. Has human detection (separate from motion detection). Has controllable light/strobe. Has triggerable siren. Has triggerable audio auto-responses.

Negatives:
Amcrest STILL can’t get aspect ratios right. On my iPhone the app shows the camera view stretched horizontally so that objects appear wider than actual. This may vary by viewing device but nonetheless is an annoying oversight - I expect to be able to view in the proper aspect ratio on any device I’m using.
Inexplicably the interface for setting the motion detection zone is entirely different from the interface for setting the human detection zone, despite both defining areas with the same end constraints. The motion UI uses the same grid system as the AD110, while the human UI uses a rubberband area overlay. It is great to be able to define each area independently, but why they don’t use the same UI is bizarre.
I managed to get the unit or app locked up while previewing audio auto-responses, but got recovered after a few app restarts.

Overall, seems like a solid upgrade, especially considering the new features that for some reason they aren’t advertising.

Here is some info about the Ad410, In this info it talks about the Human Detection and Motion..
https://support.amcrest.com/hc/en-us/ar ... era-AD410-

ALSO anyone reading this and wondering about the Ability to make changes with a NVR DVR or Blue Iris you might want to look over the info about connection to a NVR it sounds like it has the same issues as the AD110 does when it comes to making adjustment with anything outside of Smart Home app....

Thanks for the review @djsteve.

The Amcrest AD410 appears to be the identical hardware to the Dahua Lorex 2K doorbell with the exception the latter is white and includes an SD-card. I'm only pointing this out since the Lorex marketing provides an accurate list of features that Amcrest weirdly omits. Before now, I had thought Amcrest had modified the doorbell to remove features (such as the light) and lower the cost. And has anyone seen any of their bi-weekly marketing emails announce the AD410 yet? I haven't.

The actual AD410 aspect ratio is 4:3, but the SmartHome app apparently doesn't recognize this and continues to use a wide 16x9 aspect which is why the image is stretched horizontally. The main thing is this new aspect better for showing packages at the door than the AD110? It should be.

I get why there is a different area filtering mechanism for human detection. It must require a single contiguous detection area and can not cope with the potential for multiple piecemeal block grids. Since there is no PIR sensor in this doorbell, the accuracy of human detection is all the more important to avoid false alarms. Can you clear/disable all motion detection grids and rely on human detection area rectangle only?

Again, thanks for the initial review. Hope to hear more with your experience with nighttime clarity, reliability, and human detection accuracy.

I have had this doorbell for a little over a week and am using the app and also hooked up to blue iris to record 24/7. The motion detection was going off at night by just bugs even with everything set up on the lowest settings, i had to turn it off, but the human detection works great. I haven't gotten a single false detection yet, and also havebt gotten a single missed human detection either (I've been looking on blue iris for any motion events every day to see if any are missed, and they match up exactly on human detections).

One thing I realized a couple days ago is you can connect to it via the amcrest view pro app and bump up the frame rate and the bitrate. I couldnt find those options in the regular amcrest home app.

I had the AD110 before this and mounted the 410 in the same spot, and with the 4:3 aspect ratio you get a slightly wider field of view and a much higher vertical fov. I can see almost my whole porch now(previously i couldnt see any of the ground) to see packages left. This doorbell is a big upgrade from the 110. As long as you turn the motion alerts off and just use human detection.

Does anyone know if this doorbell has a substream at all? I'd like to use that with blue iris if possible.

@Diceman Hello and Welcome to the forum

While I don't own the AD410 yet, I am going to guess that looking at the Data sheet for the camera it does say that it does have 2 streams and oddly not sure because only going off what the data sheet says.. Compression H264 (H265 Supported), Then next lines Say Video Streams H264 / 2 Streams so I am wondering if and again I don't know but I wonder if H265 is enabled if it only offers 1 stream and that is why the next line was printed like it was?

So if by change you are using the H265 I would try the H264 and see if it opens up the Second steam.. With all my other cameras that support H265 and the older it wouldn't matter one way or the other what mode it was in for either stream but anything is possible..

But in short answer it does say yes that it has 2 streams..
Here to help the best I can.

Thanks @Diceman for your post, especially regarding the motion detection. Since there is no PIR, I am not at all surprised the false alarms would be terrible, even at the lowest settings. It's good to know you can turn it off and rely solely on human detection which sounds like it is working perfectly so far. Until such time Amazon delivers packages by drones, I can live with that "limitation" ;-)

So as I understand it, Blue Iris detection of motion events from the AD410 match up with Human Detection push alerts in the SmartHome app, right? If so, that confirms that Human Detection is triggering "VideoMotion" events. That is a really good thing to know for 3rd party integration. (As an aside, the AD110, it triggers "AlarmLocal" events when PIR heat is detected as well as VideoMotion for pixel changes).

To confirm exactly what the video encoding capabilities are for the main stream as well as any substreams, issue this command:

Code: Select all

<ip_addr/cgi-bin/encode.cgi?action=getConfigCaps
The main stream capabilities are listed under "MainStream[x]", (where x: 0=regular record; 1=motion record; 2=alarm record)
Substream 1 capabilities are under "ExtraStream[0]"; Substream 2 (if available) is "ExtraStream[1]".

To confirm what the current video encoding settings are now active, use:

Code: Select all

<ip_addr>/cgi-bin/configManager.cgi?action=getConfig&name=Encode
Making changes to these encoding settings is indeed possible via the API, NVR, or other apps as long as the values are within the capabilities listed. The concern here though is that in the AD110, the original firmware had bugs that apparently allowed unsupported values to be saved that either froze the video requiring a factory reset, or worse, brick the device. It's good to hear that you were able to make some encoding changes without any problem. Hope that holds up.
