AD410 DC connection polarity

Post by Phrede »

The AD410 tech specs include 12-24 Vdc for power. However there is no polarity marked or documented. Which terminal is positive or is it self sensing and not matter? I called tech support but the English was so poor I couldn't understand them.

Hello and Welcome to the Forum..

So in some of my Older Dual Voltage cameras your right they are marked on what would be + and what would be - if using DC. However with the AD410 and AD110 it is Dual Voltage that isn't dependent on polarity.

Here is what is important. If your going to use a Doorbell Chime then Chime Kit is needed. IF no Chime then you don't need a Chime Kit and you can run AC Or DC. If Doorbell Chime then you will need to run Chime Kit and 16vac 30va..

I thought I would touch some more on this..

The Camera is normally a AC. This means that the camera is going to have a Bridge Rectifier and because of this the camera don't need to worry about Polarity marked. What happens is the Bridge knows what needs to be + and - and will only give such to the cameras internal circuit.

I have not looked at any of my older cameras for long time but if I had to guess they might have only used a Single Diode to change the internal voltage to the DC that the camera would need. Today using a Full Bridge that makes it so no need for marked Polarity. I did just to confirm change out the Polarity on my AD410 and it is still working as it was before the change. I have my AD410 working without a Indoor Chime and powered with a 12v DC power supply

However doing this normally the Voltage Drop would be little over 1v however I have not tested this but normally because of the Full Bridge Rectifier there will be a voltage drop

Also to show what they look like in hardware I made a fast one 4 diodes and a real one the the right if you zoom in to picture you can see the + and - of the real one pulled from a device
