AD410 Adding a compatible chime UK

Post by cliver »

Hi all,
I have an AD410 installed and working here in the UK. It is stand alone and powered by an 18V 800MA AC Transformer.
It works OK but the built in chime is nowhere near loud enough.
So I want to add an indoor chime to it.
I have a compatibility list from amcrest support which is the same as this on their site for the AD110
https://support.amcrest.com/hc/en-us/ar ... ell-AD110-
This is a US centric list and I have been struggling to find any available in the UK.
However, I have found this Heath Zenith SL-2796-02 which is on the list..
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Heath-Zenith-C ... B001PCXECI
This requires a 16VAC/10VA transformer so my existing PSU/Transformer won't cut it in terms of power/voltage.
I'm struggling to find a 10VA transformer here in the UK. There are loads of 8VA rail mountable ones but non rtated 10VA.
I can find several higher rated transformers that would require mounting seperately to my consumer unit but I'd rather have one that mounts in my consumer unit as I have space to spare in it.
Can anyone in the UK either recomend a rail mount transformer that would suit the HZ SL-279-02 chime or a different chime/transformer pair that will work with the AD410 please?
Any pointers greatly appreciated.

First keep in mind that your Doorbell says it needs a 10va the Ad410 is going to need at least that so it is said or has been anyway that if your going to connect with indoorbell system you want a 30va as a normal setup at 16vac.

About one that will mount in your box I can't say that you will find something that would.

Also please remember that when it is Wired to a indoor chime it will require one be added into the app for it to work. IF your system was setup right (As you have it now) that part of the setup should have been skipped and adding one without updating the app to work with one your indoor bell wouldn't work when the button is pressed. That is because when the camera is setup as a Stand alone when button is pressed it only alerts the phone and the camera acts normal.

This means adding the Doorbell transformer, adding the Chime Kit, Adding the Indoor Chime, and once all that is done correctly then open the app, bring up the camera and click on the setup for the camera, then click on doorbell, then click on type you want Digital would be my guess would be the option you would choose, then you will want to set the time you want for it to power that doorbell. Say it is a long tone then choose 7 to 10 seconds save and you should be good.
Here to help the best I can.

Thanks Revo2Maxx. I'll go for a 30VA one and mount it elswhere then.
Also thanks for the pointers on setting it up in the app once installed.
I knew that would be nessesary but it's good to have some guidance to refer to.

Hmmm, one more problem. All the 16V/30-40VA trabsformers I can find are 120V primary. I need UK 240V.
Anyone know of a source for a 240V one please?

It's OK.
I have gone for an open frame transformer and an enclosure to make my own.
As in:

https://www.esr.co.uk/shop/contents/en- ... Black.html
These and the chime on order.

Here's hoping it all works ;)

It took ages for all the parts to arrive. Got the last bits just before Christmas. Installed it all today and happy to report it all works fine.

@cliver

Perhaps you would be so kind as to share a picture of your setup? I have ordered the same transformer as you have recommended, and have it powering the doorbell.

I can however, not get the internal chime to work, I must be doing something wrong with the wiring!

The wiring is exactly the same as in the image linked below which is for a ring doorbell but it's the same wiring.
Where it shows the "PRO POWER KIT" in the diagram you need to wire in the Amcrest Chime Kit that came with the AD410. This is important as it limits the current flowing through your chime as the AD410 draws quite a bit more than a normal doorbell would. Hence the need for a beefier transformer.

This shows how to install the chime kit...

Hope that helps.

Ok, many thanks for your swift response. I shall invest a little more time tomorrow and see if I can get my setup working.

I have a Honeywell D117 chime, and AD110. Despite not being on the official supported list, I have seen others report that the D117 works, internally, it isn't much different from the RCW100N1000 which is.

Hi all, hopefully @cliver will come back to this post and reply.
I have an AD410 doorbell.

I don't have an electrical background, so I'm trying to understand what parts do I need to take and how can I assist a local electrician, since so far they didn't manage to help.

If I go with a Honeywell D117 chime, would I be able to make it work with the chassis transformer linked previously?
Will it need soldering?
Will I need to get the enclosure and put it somewhere on the wall?

Please help, I am going crazy and I've been without a chime for a week since they managed to break my previous Deta one to remove it.
