Software engineer here as well. This is an immature product and needs to have a lot more testing behind it before they release more changes.

Cannot update firmware

Post by bryeartem »

I just installed an AD110 and it says there is a firmware update available... clicking “Cloud Upgrade” acts like it’s downloading but just stays at 0%. If I go back the the menu and manually select firmware update it says “this version does not support cloud upgrading” ... how am I supposed to update the firmware?

I have never clicked the Cloud Update button always done mine with the other button... if you don't have Cloud for it I would guess that you wouldn't use that option if you do have Cloud then I would maybe send the Amcrest Support team a email asking them to push your FW update or ask why it isn't working...

It might be that you need to click the 2nd way you tried to update but was still in motion of the first.. Maybe after closing the app and once reopen when you try the Manual Update it would work?

Well i can say this the new feature to shutoff the IR isn't added correctly. If you reboot the device or if it loose power it set back to Night Vision = Auto instead of the value you had set. So since i install the firmware and set it to night vision off last week we have been woken up 5 times already cause of this setting not suving reboots and power outages. I have sat here and tested both way and can again repeat my results 100% that the setting is not saved.

I am very disappointing in the apparent lack of development testing see with the unit. I know people keep saying the IR issue comes from your transformer but i have gone though 3 transformer, 2 AD110 units and a complete rewire. In my own testing i tested this on a new 16v 30va transfomer on one foot of bell wire in my basement and had the same results with the IR leds and the device power cycling (and the wireless router was 5 feet away). This was just an badly tested product.

That is very strange that your having that issue...

I am not sure what size of Bell wire your using but I can tell you that right now with a 10va Doorbell and the AD110 is working 100% of the time at night with no issues with the IR on I have no cycling of the camera from day to night as long as there is no cars coming down a road that shines right into my camera.. However now that the leaves and things are back in play that light don't bother the camera anymore at night and I have turned off my Front light and ran my Doorbell camera all night without 1 issue of cycling.. I am using 18ga wiring from doorbell to transformer to camera that plugs into a Class2 Transformer 16vac 30va system...

About the Off of the IR after a Reboot I agree it is a PITA to have to worry about it all the time if there is power issues.. I am sure they are working with the R&D team to correct this in the coming FW upgrade...

They told me my device maybe defective..... so I don't think they are planning on making any changes..... in regards to the ir.

Furthermore, they want me to send my device back first before I can receive a replacement.... which is very inconvenient as I threw away my old doorbell. Am I supposed to not have anything plugged during the time it takes for them to receive and replace my doorbell?!?!?

I even offered my credit card info if that would mean they could send the replacement first, but I haven heard back yet.

I'm better off buying another one and shipping back the defective via amazon once I test it against my new 24vac 100va transformer, which should be arriving soon.

What is the consensus on installing this firmware? My AD110/Smart Home has been working perfectly for about six weeks. I am anxious to get the feature that allows for extending the length of time the indoor chime plays, but, I don't want to get into a big hassle to get things working again after updating the firmware.

hi @hawkeye62, are you currently on 20200701? i'm on 20200702 and i can't tell what has changed from 20200701. if everything is working fine with yours right now with 20200701 i would view 20200702 as a non-critical update.
