Any way to use browser to view the cam without any plugin?

Post by cpthk »

I have the IP2M-841B unit. Is there any way to view the cam using browser without installing browser plugin? I usually travel to different computers to connect back to my cam. Not all the machines will allow me to install a browser plugin. I think the point of using browser is that it is mobile without any need to install software. So, to me installing a browser plugin kind of defeats the purpose of using the web-based viewer. I have an old unit of Foscam cam, and it does not require me to install anything to use browser to view the cam. I am fine with sacrificing the quality in exchange to mobility. Is there any way to do that? If not, what's the closest I could get to? Thanks.

Hello cpthk,

You can use the code to fetch the MJPEG stream on the camera and you can use this in Firefox, Chrome or Safari in MAC. You need to replace the below code with your cameras Ip address, http port, username and password.

http://user:Pwd@ip:port/cgi-bin/mjpg/video.cgi?[channel=<1>]&subtype=1

Stupidest answer with ZERO security in mind I ever read....

1. This leaves the username and password credential on the computer/browser's history. Other users can view your camera too by looking up your browsing history.

2. "http:" protocol is in used, that means your credentials will be sniffed in the network or the proxy in used. Very easy to be sniffed.

If you set up the Amcrest Cloud service it will allow you to view without any plug-in. The free version limits the amount of live viewing you can do (restricted monthly use minutes). Cheapest paid subscription is $6/mo and provides unlimited live viewing plus includes 7 days history of recorded events I believe. You can view just fine, but doesn't provide the full control that the plug-in provides. I guess it depends on what you need as to what that best solution is.

The first concern could be solved by using private mode in the browser. That way no history is left in the browser.

Secure methods like this can also be used as well. That don't require the use of any plugins. Many live examples are also provided at the link below:

Hi,

Just received my IP2M-841 and as much as i love the hardware, im quite disappointed about web support.

Having to install a third-party opaque plugin to play some video stream is overkill by 2018. browsers can play a lot of formats or have the power to decode streams ?

I'd really love to see AmCrest as a web-friendly company.

I'm on OSX and the embedded firmware (shipped from you 1 week ago) was the N-2 firmware, in which there's a bug specifically on OSX to download that web plugin... So tried to upgrade firmware but no luck, "invalid firmware" :)

Needs : access to video + audio raw streams from my web browser (chrome or firefox) and without "plugin" :)

Or any advise for a more web-friendly camera model ?

Thank you

Pretty much all of these Chinese IP camera companies are stuck in 2005. It will be interesting to see what happens going forward since the ancient browsers and plugins they rely on have already been deprecated and very soon will be gone completely from nearly all computers in use.

yeah, kinda sucks, I can't get this to work from work because of the plugins. I tried using p2p with the software but it can't find my NVR and I can't use the browser cause it wants a plugin
