replacing DVR

Post by morganlp »

OK, it looks like my current 1080 DVR will need to be replaced....can't seem to get a master password to go through in order to update the firmware....currently I have 8 cameras hard wired into this unit...bought as a set 2 years ago AMD10808-S3. When my new DVR comes in..is it just a matter of plugging everything into the new DVR and being good to go? Or is it all new set up with IP address and all that? Since it's already been done once... wondering if I need my security guy to do this or if this can be done myself..thank you

Well it depends on what you ordered as a replacement...

However I would have to say you could just do a swap for swap on the BNC, and other plugs you have your system connected from old to new....

Then make sure using the PSU that comes with new unless they are same model and same PSU then using old is ok keep new as backup...

Then turn on machine. It will be setup with a Setup Wizard to guide you though the setup... Depending on model, it will ask you for a password and might even ask you to setup a unlock pattern like on one of my DVR's I don't even remember the Password anymore lol. I just have to put in my Unlock pattern.

Anyway once you get done with the Wizard it will prompt you to keep it on for next time or you can click the little box to not show wizard again. Just unclick as you can always turn it back on from the menu anyway.

Once setup you can then go into your system and setup your Recording Schedules or motion Schedules....

Also it is important to remember some stand alone DVR/NVR's don't come with a HDD. SO if your going to use your old HDD in the new system you will want to get that swapped out first thing before making any other connections to it....

Most times there will be just 4 screws on the bottom of the DVR that you can take out 3/4 of the way and then slide the drive out of the holder.

However on some like my Larger DVR's the HDD are held in by rails and need to be removed from the side of the drive not the bottom...

Once you have your HDD installed cables connected to drive, Install the lid again. Then plug in your BNC and other cables.

I been my own Security Guy every since I started in CCTV. Never like the idea of someone having total Idea of where all my cameras are placed or what I can see from each camera. What I offer at times in pictures when doing a demo are just 4 cameras that are really double or tripped covered area anyway.
Be Safe.
