NVR and Camera settings

Post by m6johnson »

I have 11 Amcrest cams already set up and running with Surveillance Station. I'd like to try out an Amcrest NVR so I can help folks who would rather go with that option rather than a NAS. I see in the set up instructions for the Amcrest NVR that all camera parameters can be set from the NVR. I don't want any of the camera parameters to change. Is it possible to add cameras to the NVR without having it try to set camera parameters?

Hello and Welcome to the Forum..

When you have cameras setup to and access them using WebUI or some 3rd party software/hardware. When you add them to an Amcrest NVR or DVR in NVR format the way the camera is setup is how it will be setup in the Recorder.

Keep in mind that some 3rd party hardware/software might setup a camera in a format that the camera isn't really designed for and while it looks like that on the GUI of the 3rd party device that setup wouldn't translate to the Amcrest DVR/NVR because it was not really that way in the cameras settings..

So what I mean. Lets look lat it like this. I have loads of Cameras and DVR/NVRs and I from time to time move things around. Now I have setup most of my cameras that are 30fps to 22fps for main stream and 18fps for sub.. Anyway once all the cameras have been setup either using WebUI for the camera or cameras settings in the Recorders if I move that to another recorder that is how the new recorder will setup the camera.. Now if you needed or wanted to make some changes once you have added the camera then you can change some settings from NVR. For all parts it would be best to change in the WebUI of the Camera..

1 thing that might change and I would double check that it is disabled.. That is Auto Switch H.265. You will want to turn that off just in case it was setup with it on.. Also I would seeing the camera are already setup, I would turn off Plug N Play if that option was enabled in the NVR some are some are not..

So what I would do, I would log into each of your cameras and export the settings for each of the cameras.. I have loads of devices and things can get confusing. So for me I will make a Back up folder on my backup HDD, I have it setup with main folder as CCTV, Then I make next one Amcrest *Again have many different cameras and brands so want to name the second one company of the device* then after making the Amcrest folder I setup the devices, So mext would be my Amcrest list of devices as folders, 3108E-4p, 4108-A2, 4108E-HS, 4116E-HS, 4216-E1, 4216E-AI, 5232E-16P, 5108-E1, 7108-AI. That is some of the recorders I have then I make a folder for each of the cameras under IPC. In there again name folders for each of my cameras. On cameras I have many different ones then I make another folder with the last IP number so I know that first one in the name of the camera is one that isn't in the list of IP numbers.. This can be problematic so I started using last 6 of a SN as the folder seeing IP numbers change after moving them to different Recorder when you connect to the POE port of the NVR.. Just using the local IP addresses they don't chnage unless you change them.. POE port of the NVR different story.. Anyway once you make your folders and make your backup, Once it is done with the backup in your DL folder I move it to the correct backup camera folder for easy import in the future. Also could use the last 6 of the Mac address what ever is easier for you.. Once you have it backed up if something went wrong you can restore the back to your camera..
Be Safe.

Very cool. Thanks for that. Making a camera setting backup directory is a good idea. I'll do that.

I currently use H.265 for Surveillance Station and H.264 for the substream that feeds into HKSV. As long as it all stays that way, I'll be a happy camper. I also have quite a few Amcrest cams I haven't put into use yet, so I can always set some of those up to test various things on the NVR.

Thanks again for your reply. All good info.
